I love gardening: the back garden

Eccoci alla seconda puntata riguardo il mio innamoramento per il giardinaggio :)

Come vi dicevo, ho iniziato a lavorare sodo anche nel giardino dietro. Grazie ad una giornata di sole, a tanto olio di gomito (che fatica! male ovunque!!!), all'aiuto dei libri di Alan Titchmarsch (ormai diventato il mio guru, AMO quell'uomo e ogni tanto guardo anche il suo show in tv!!!), di tanto lavoro di ricerca e di tante idee e consigli dati da due care amiche bloggers, Silvia e Simonetta e da un'amica di mail, Bruna, ho iniziato a impostare un pó di idee su cosa voglio piantare.

Nell'aiuola di destra che sta all'ombra dello steccato ho piantato tre ortensie Arborescens Annabelle, col tempo dovrebbero diventare bei cespuglioni di enormi ortensie bianche (ehmmm vedremo......!)

Here we are again talking about how much I fell in love with gardening :)

Today I will tell you what's happening in the back garden. Thanks to a lovely sunny day, to a lot of effort, (muscle pain everywhere!), to the help of Alan Titchamrsch books (I LOVE that man!!! he is starting to become my life guru ^_^), to some research work and to the help of two talented blogger friends, Silvia and Simonetta, and of a mail friend, Bruna, I have started to think about what I want to plant in the back garden beds.

In the bed next to the fence on the right, which is in shade, I planted three Hydrangeas Arborescens Annabelle, that should give me, with time, some nice bushes of huge white flowers (we will see.....!)

Le ortensie che avevo comprato qualche settimana fa sono sempre piú belle.. stanno colorando il mio angolino preferito, sotto gli alberi e sono gonfie e stupende!

The two gorgeous Hydrangeas I bought some weeks ago are more and more beautiful day after day and they give so much colour to the little corner under the trees which I love!

Sorvoliamo sul fatto che una é lilla e doveva essere rosa e l'altra é per lo piú azzurra e doveva essere bianca (da cartellini) :) Magie delle ortensie, che decidono di che colore vogliono essere in base alla terra, al pH, alle condizioni... misteri! Pian pianino impareró a conoscere queste piante e a capirle. Per il momento me le godo anche in questi colori anche se non erano proprio quelli che avevo scelto :D

Let's drop the subject that the lilac one should have been pink and the blue one should have been white (as par labels) :) That's the magic of Hydrangea, they decide which colour to have based on the soil condition, pH, etc... it's a mistery! I hope that slowly I will understand better these plants. For now, I enjoy them, even if the colours are not the ones that I intended them to be :D

Nell'aiuola di sinistra, al sole, ho piantato tre piante di peonia, uno dei miei fiori preferiti. Una aveva anche giá un bocciolo che nei giorni scorsi é fiorito!

In the bed on the left, that benefits from much more sun, I planted three peonies, one of my favourite flowers. One had already a bud that in the last days started to bloom!

E infine un piccolo angolino "aromatico" vicino alla cucina. Il basilico e il prezzemolo che uso quotidianamente li tengo sul davanzale, ma queste piantine (salvia, erba cipollina e menta, a cui si aggiungeranno presto timo e rosmarino) le ho messe tutte qui. Dovró rivedere il discorso menta perché mi hanno avvisato che é tremenda e si prende in poco tempo tutto il giardino. Penso la pianteró invasata... prima che prenda il sopravvento!

And finally a little "aromatic" corner next to the kitchen door. I actually keep basil and flat parsley (the herbs I use daily) on the kitchen windowsill, but I decided to put these plants (mint, sage and chives, that will be soon followed by rosemary and thyme) in this corner of the flower bed. I will have to revise the mint issue, as I have been told they are quite a problem, cos they spread everywhere. I guess I will plant them with the vase inside the soil before it's too late!

Tutto questo lavoro l'ho fatto sempre con l'occhio vigile e la compagnia del mio nuovo amico merlo, che ha un nido ad un paio di giardini dal mio e che appena mi vede con la vanga in mano svolazza alla ricerca di sfortunati vermetti aprofittando del fatto che muovo la terra e li porta avanti e indietro nel suo nido per sfamare (immagino) i suoi nuovi merlini... e io aprofitto della sua compagnia e del suo dolcissimo musetto e canto melodico. E' stato con me praticamente tutto il pomeriggio! E' nato un amore! Eccolo qui sotto mentre fa il giro di tutte le aiuole :)

All of this work was done under the constant stare of my new friend, a cute blackbird that has his nest a couple of gardens from mine, and that comes as soon as he sees me with the spade, looking for worms in the soil I move and goes back and forth to feed (I suppose) his newly born chicks. And I take advantage of his company, his sweetness and his lovely song.

He stayed with me all afternoon! Here you can see him down here, having a go at all my flowers beds :)

L'erba in rotoli é cresciuta tantissimo e finalmente ha preso bene il terreno. Questo w.e. abbiamo potuto tagliarla ed ora é verde smeraldo e perfetta! Me la godo finché durerá cosi, perché so giá che a breve verra invasa dalle erbacce e inizierá la lotta tra me e loro!!! La penny si gode tutto questo verde e i vari work in progress, anche se preferiva l'erba alta prima del w.e., in cui poteva nascondersi e fare gli agguati agli altri gatti dei vicini :)

The new turf has grown a lot and it rooted deeply. Finally last w.e. we could mow it and now it's deep green, short and perfect. I am trying to enjoy it like this because I perfectly know that it won't last long, soon the battle towards the weed will begin! Penny is enjoying all this green too, even if she preferred the garden when the grass was very tall, where she could hide and play with the neighbours cats :)

Romanticherie e poesia a parte, la cosa MOOOOLTO preoccupante é che ho giá speso un sacco di soldi solo per riempire l'aiuola davanti e comprare ste poche piante che vedete sopra, e non occupano nemmeno un trentesimo delle aiuole del giardino dietro O_O (che sono cmq piccole eh!!!). Non sapevo che uno dovesse vendere un rene per riempire il giardino ma pare sia cosí :)! E sto pian piano capendo che le piante possono essere come le stoffe (una drogaaaa!) e i vivai possono essere come i negozi di stoffa (luoghi di perdizione)! Ricordo i frequentissimi giri di sabato pomeriggio da bambina con la mia nonna ai vivai, e il bagagliaio al ritorno strapieno di piante e piantine, alberi, bulbi, di tutto! A questo punto spero questa cosa non sia genetica ed ereditaria perché inizio a capire che puó diventare una vera dipendenza :) Salvatemiiii!!!

The very worrying thing is that I already spent a lot of money just to fill the front garden patch and to buy some plants for the back garden (the ones above), that probably occupy only 1/30 of the actual beds size O_O (and they are actually small beds!). I didn't really know that you have to get a mortgage to be able to fill the garden but it seems so :) And I am slowly realizing that plants can be like fabric (an addiction) and that nurseries can be like fabric shops! I remember when I was a little girl, many saturday afternoons spent with my grandmother at the nursery, and coming back with the car boot completely full of plants, flowers, little trees, vases, bulbs! So I really hope this is not a genetic thing because I am starting to realize that this gardening thing can cause a serious addiction :) Help me!!!

I love gardening: the front garden

E chi se lo immaginava? Il giardinaggio io l'ho sempre visto come una cosa per una elite di appassionati dotati geneticamente di pollice verde. Lo vedevo come una cosa completamente fuori dal mio essere, troppo difficile e troppo pesante e troppo noiosa.

Quello che ho scoperto in questi giorni invece é che il giardinaggio é un hobby terapeutico e magnifico, c'é qualcosa di magico nel piantare, toccare la terra, curare, spaccarsi la schiena a vangare, vedere crescere passo dopo passo qualcosa che prima non c'era. Posso passare decine di minuti ad osservare le mie piante, a togliere con cura le infestanti, ad innaffiare e sono minuti che volano senza accorgermene. Ci dev'essere per forza qualcosa di magico in tutto questo. Un'energia particolare che solo il contatto con la natura puó darti.

Who could imagine that?? I always considered gardening to be a hobby for a few talented people with a green finger and a lot of spare time and patience. I have never thought I could love it,and here I am, completely in love with my plants!

During these days of intensive gardening I realized that gardening is a therapeutic and amazing hobby. There is something magical about planting, touching the earth, looking after the plants, working, digging, seeing new things growing, weeding, watering... I could spent much time just looking at my plants without realizing that the time goes by. That's why I think there is something magical about it and only nature can give you something like this.

Ecco quindi cosa sta succedendo intorno al nostro nido... oggi vi racconto del giardino davanti!

Finalmente abbiamo decorato la zona d'ingresso con due alberelli di olivo. Li adoro e adoro i vasi di legno, che ho sempre desiderato e che finalmente sono proprio li, dove li avevo sempre immaginati nella mia casa dei sogni, proprio come un bel cottage di campagna anche se la nostra é una casa moderna in una zona residenziale :)

So here is what is happening aound our nest.. today I'll tell you about the front garden!

Finally we decorated the entrance area with two olive standards trees. I love them and I love the white wooden boxes that I had always imagined and envisioned in my dream house entrance, like a cute countryside cottage, even if ours house is a modern building in a residential area :)

{Nicola thinks that they are pretty but that they remind him of Tony Montana's Scarface manion, please tell me he is definitely wrong ^_^}

Sono garantiti sopravvivere agli inverni inglesi, ammetto che qualche dubbio ce l'ho, ma siccome non sono i primi ulivi che vedo nei dintorni, incrocio le dita.. e si vedrá :)

These olives are supposed to survive the cold english winters, I admit to be a bit dubious about this, but I saw other olive trees around so I am hopeful :) we will see!

Accanto all'ingresso c'é un pratino un pó malmesso e una piccola aiuola che ho completamente rivoluzionato. Prima c'erano piante tipo bamboo, graminacee, erbe, cespugli e piante "moderne" varie che nn mi piacevano. Ora da un mesetto la situazione é quella qui sotto. Un "inizio" di aiuola. Un misto di piante da fiore e cespugli sempreverdi, in modo che ci sia qualcosa da vedere tutto l'anno. Ci vorranno anni perché cresca e sia come la immagino ma pian piano a furia di guardarle, parlarci e coccolarle so che le mie piantine mi daranno tante soddisfazioni :)

Next to the entrance there is a lawn patch with a small flower bed. When we bought the house it was full of bamboos alikes, grass, modern plants which I don't fancy much. A month ago I worked hard and changed everything and now it's like this. It's a mixture of flower plants and evergreen shrubs, so there should be something interesting to see all year round. It will take years for this flower bed to become like I imagine it, but I am sure that looking at my plants, talking to them and loving them they will give me a lot of satisfaction :)

Ho deciso di piantare un pó dei miei fiori preferiti, come la lavanda (che peró pare non ami molto questa posizione, infatti sto valutando di spostarla dietro nell'aiuola con piú sole), cespugli come questa hebe qui sotto e un cespuglio di rose, le Queen of Sweden di David Austin (scelte da Nicola perché io al vivaio ero indecisa tra tutte e devo dire che le adoro, e ditemi se quest'uomo nn ha dei gusti favolosi!). Non sono ancora in fiore ma non mancheró di mostrarvele quando mi regaleranno il primo bocciolo!

I decided to plant some of my favourite flowers like lavender (even if it's not thriving here, so I'll probably move it in the back garden in a sunnier spot), shrubs like this hebe down here, and a roses shrub, the lovely Queen of Sweeden from David Austin (which Nicola chose for me, because I couldn't decide among so many at the nursery, but I love them, doesn't my man have an excellent taste?). They are not in bloom yet, but as soon as they will give me a flower I will surely show it to you!

E poi i garofinanini che amo moltissimo e tante alpine nane, che spero con il tempo formeranno un tappetino gonfio di foglie e fiori colorati.

I also planted some carnations and some small cute aplines, hopefully in some time they will give a nice ground covering with many little coloured flowers.

ps grazie per gli auguri di guarigione e per i messaggi di preoccupazione per la mia assenza! fortunatamente la mia spalla sta benissimo... credo sia stata una banale (ma potentissima) tendinite e si é risolta in pochissimi gg e ormai é un ricordo lontano (e spero rimanga tale). L'assenza degli ultimi gg é dovuta solo a tanto tanto lavoro (ordini, commissioni) e nulla di nuovo da mostrare! tutto qui ;)

Red + ecru = love!

Apprezzo lavorare su commissione e soddisfare le mie amiche e clienti (spesso ne escono piccoli capolavori che da sola non avrei avuto occasione di creare), ma quello che amo di piú é farmi guidare dalle stoffe e dall'ispirazione e vedere verso dove mi porta.

Avevo voglia da un pó di sfruttare il nuovo pattern di Keyka Lou (una delle mie designer preferite e gentile sponsor), la pleated clutch, di cui mi ero innamorata al primo istante in cui l'ho vista. Il pattern é (come sempre) spiegato benissimo e la pochette é tutto sommato parecchio veloce da fare. Ma ovviamente mi piace complicarmi la vita e cosí via di abbellimenti a tutto spiano, perché le cose monotone nn mi vanno giú!

Mi sono proprio sbizzarrita e non vedevo l'ora di mostravi questa nuova "collezione" nei toni del rosso/bordeaux e del color ecru che trovate giá nel mio shop se siete interessate!

I obviously love to work on custom orders (especially because sometimes there are new things and ideas that come out from the mix of two minds and some little masterpieces can come out of it)but what I love most is to set my creativity free and see where it brings me. I love to be guided by fabric and inspirations.

I have been wanting to use this fairly recent pattern from Keyka Lou (one of my favourite designers and lovely sponsor), the Pleated Clutch, from the first time I saw it. The instructions are, as usual, great and easy to follow, and the pouch itself is not too hard to make. Obviously though, I love to make things harder, so I decided to decorate each pouch in a different way. So here it is, this new spring/summer collection in a red/burgundy and neutral theme that you will find in my shop if you are interested in buying them.

La prima é semplice e romantica. Un tessuto grezzo a roselline, molto french, e come abbellimento un meraviglioso bottone fatto a mano dalla mia amica Dani e che proviene proprio dai suoi ulivi, nella sua stupenda casa sulle colline di Firenze, me ne ha regalati diversi, alcuni li terró per me e per delle cosine che ho giá in progetto di farmi. Questo ho deciso di metterlo a disposizione di chi vorrá acquistare questa pochette.

The first one is simple and romantic. A rustic little roses fabric, very french as a background and a lovely handmade tuscan olive tree button. My friend Dani made those using the olive trees around here beautiful house in Tuscany and gave me some of them, I will keep most of them for me and for future projects I already have in mind, but one will go with the person that will decide to buy that pouch.

Questa versione invece, sempre con la stoffina grezza a roselline, l'ho decorata con un uccellino applicato e un ricamo a mano. E' una delle mie preferite! La adoro!!!

This one is made with the same little roses rustic fabric but I decorated it with a bird applique and a stitchery. It's one of my favourite, I love it!!!

Per questa pochette ho usato del lino color ecru, un tessuto rigato come fodera che come colore si abbina alle decorazioni che ho applicato sulla patta. Una rosa fatta a mano, e qualche bottone coordinato.

For this pouch I used some ecru natural linen and a striped red and white fabric lining that matches the decorations I added on the front. A handmade fabric rose and some cute matching buttons.

I pois non potevano mancare e quindi eccoli qui sotto! Parte sotto con una simpaticissima stoffa a pois su fondo rosso e parte sopra con ricamo a mano e dolcissimo e onnipresente, mitico e adorabile uccellino :)

Of course I couldn't avoid to use my beloved polka dots, so here they are down here! A funny big polka dots red fabric matching a stitchery with a bird on the top linen part!

E infine una versione piú estiva, righettone rosse e bianche abbinate a una fila di bandierine. Aria di mare, un pó vintage, un pó coastal.... Questa pochette mi ispira un'allegria pazzesca!

And finally a more summery version, with big red and white stripes together with a cute bunting. Summer beach atmosphere, a bit vintage, a bit coastal... This pouch really makes me smile!

E' vero che ogni scarrafone é bello a mamma sua, ma é anche vero che ci sono quelle volte, non sono tantissime, che davvero sei orgoglioso di quello che crei. Che davvero finisci e pensi: ma l'ho fatto io????

Ecco, questi momento sono magici, e ti riempiono di orgoglio e di soddisfazione.

Il momento in cui ho tenuto tra le mani questi quadrettini da me disegnati e creati é stato proprio uno di quei momenti. Magici!

It's true that every mother thinks their son is beautiful (an antique italian saying) meaning that every crafter loves what she makes, but it's also true that there are some times, not so often, that you are really extremely proud of what you created. That you really finish and think: but, did I really make that???

Well, these moments are magic and they fill you with pride and satisfaction.

The moment in which I kept in my hands these 3 pictures which I designed and handmade, was one of those moments. Magical!

Well, if that is not clear yet, I am in love with them!

Saranno le lanette e il feltro, saranno i colori (rosa antico e marrone, cioé, devo dire altro?), sará la deliziosa cornice ikea, saranno gli uccellini, i bottoni, il micino sorridente, i dettagli con la stoffa a pois, il fumo ricamato che esce dai camini, l'albero di tweed... non lo so, ma so che la bimba a cui sono destinati questi quadretti, riceverá assieme alle cornici e alle applique, anche un pezzetto innamorato del mio cuore :)

Maybe it will be because of the wool and felt, or the colours (dusty pink and brown, should I say more?), or the lovely ikea frames, or the birds, or the buttons, or the smiling cat, or the polka dot fabric details, or the stitched smoke coming out of the chimneys, or the tweed tree... I don't know, but what I know is that the little girl who will receive these pictures, will get a little piece of my heart as well :)

prima di lasciarvi volevo solo dirvi che purtroppo da un paio di giorni ho un problema ad una spalla che mi rende difficile fare tutto, compreso lavorare alla macchina da cucire e scrivere al pc. Sto cercando cmq di rispondere pian piano a chi aspetta e di tenermi in contatto con il mondo e lavoricchiare pianino, ma ci metto il triplo del tempo, usando solo braccio e mano sinistra, per cui abbiate per favore molta pazienza e comprensione e speriamo di guarire presto!!!

Garden updates :)

La volete dare una sbirciatina dalla finestra della cucina? La vedete la novitá? Quel verde di erba, quel grigio di ghiaino??? E' arrivato il momento di presentarvi il nostro giardino che ha ritrovato una nuova vita, dopo essere stato massacrato dall'estensione, dai muratori e dall'inverno! Vi ricordate com'era fino a un paio di settimane fa (clicca qui)?

Do you want to have a sneak peek from our kitchen window to the news in our garden? Can you see that green of lawn and that grey of gravel??? The moment has finally come to introduce you our new garden, which has gained new life after the destruction from the extension, the builders and the winter! Can you remember how it was until a couple of weeks ago (click here)?

E' stato quasi magico. La mattina tutto marrone, la terra livellata e perfetta che giá dava una bella sensazione di ordine e il pomeriggio il verde dell'erba in rotoli che ha conquistato il giardino! Quanto amo l'erba in rotoli!!! per un'impaziente come me é manna dal cielo :)

It was almost magical. In the morning everything brow, the levelled new soil that was already giving a sense of tidiness and in the afternoon a green explosion from the new turf all around the garden! Oh, how much I love turf!!!

Ed eccolo qui il nostro pratino! Qui fotografato dopo qualche giorno! L'erba si sta pian piano alzando, le radici stanno affondando nel terreno, e pian piano il prato in rotoli diventa un vero prato.

And here is our new lawn! The pictures down here were taken some days after, so the grass was already starting to lift up and the roots were slowly getting grip in the soil.

Oltre all'erba, é stato naturalmente riempito di ghiaia il sentierino e la zona adiacente al recinto in fondo, come avevo predisposto dai miei disegni. L'angolino sotto gli alberi, come giá vi avevo detto, é il mio preferito! Lo adoro! Per ora le aiuole laterali sono ancora vuote, con la terra fresca e livellata pronta per accogliere un pó di colore. Sto anche cercando di dare casa e cibo ai tantissimi uccellini (sptt passerotti, pettirossi, piccioni, merli e gazze ladre) che popolano e passano per il giardino. Nella casa in affitto avevamo una famiglia di cinciarelle che abitavano in una birdouse in giardino. Vediamo se ci sará qualche uccellino munito di buon gusto in arredamento e bisognoso di alloggio che vorrá prendere in affitto questa casetta color panna e molto country chic ;)

Beside the lawn, the other new is the gravel that filled the designeted areas (path and bottom of the garden) as I designed. The little corner under the trees, is my favourite! I love it! The lateral beddings are empty for now, there is new and fresh soil and everything is ready for starting to plant something and giving some colour to the garden. I am also trying to give food and home to some of the many birds that visit my garden (mainly sparrows, robins, pigeons, black birds, magpies).. In the previous rented house we used to have a family of titbirds that used to leave in a birdhouse in our garden, so I hope that some bird with excellent taste for interior and in need of a house will decide to rent our pretty country chic cream birdhouse :)

Una visione di insieme!!! Certo visione un pó monotona, verde, verde e verde... (per il momento) ma quanto AMO tutto questo verde, specie dopo mesi di visione su un cantiere di terra, fango e sabbia! Un sogno!!!

A whole image! Well, I know, it's a bit boring, green green green (for now), but you have no idea how much I LOVE all this green after months of sand, mud and soil! It's a dream!

E se ancora non le avevate intraviste ecco qui i primi abitanti "floreali" del giardino, per il momento iniziamo da due belle ortensie, per colorare un pochino il mio angolino preferito e per dare il via a tutto il resto :)

And if you haven't noticed yet, down here you can see the first floreal guest of our garden, two lovely hydrangeas, to give a little colour to my fav corner :)

Non stanno d'incanto? E' incredibile la differenza che possono fare anche solo due vasi di piante appena appena in fiore!

Aren't they so pretty? It's amazing how much difference can make even just a couple of vases almost in bloom!

E per spezzare il verde dell'erba e il marrone del legno, sono contentissima di aver scelto di inserire della ghiaia, stacca moltissimo e regala luce agli angoli un pó bui in fondo al giardino! Sta d'incanto con le mattonelle che fanno da contorno, ... peccato solo sia un sacco rumorosa quando ci si cammina, ma non si puó aver tutto, no?

And to break the monotony of the green (from the lawn) and the brown (from the fence and trees) I decided to insert in the design scheme, some gravel, as you know in the path and bottom of the garden, and I am so happy about this decision because the gravel give light and contrast to the rest of the garden, the only downside is that is quite nosy to walk on, but I think we can live with it :)

Naturalmente il pratino é giá stato approvato dalla penny che lo ha annusato e ispezionato nel momento esatto in cui il giardiniere ha finito il lavoro! Certo rotolarsi nello schifo era piú divertente, ma anche usare il nuovo prato per farsi le unghie (ahhhrgggg! non sapete le urla!!!) non é poi cosí male ;)

Obviously the garden has already been tested and approved by Penny that checked everything as soon as the gardener finished the job! Of course rolling in the dirt was funnier, but also using the new lawn as a scratch post (ahhhrggg you can imagine my screams) is not too bad ;)

A place to dream

Ecco il nostro posto dove sognare. La camera da letto prende pian piano forma. Frutto di due giorni di full immersion prima di Pasqua, vestita da imbianchina e sporca di colore ovunque. Ma che soddisfazione e che cambiamento! Ha ripagato tutto lo sforzo!

Ho finalmente dipinto con colore bianco panna il letto che era, se ricordate, prima cosí (nella casa vecchia) e poi cosí (nella casa nuova, dopo aver tolto la fascia superiore della testata, che non piaceva) e con l'occasione, ho preso l'entusiasmo al balzo, e ho ridipinto anche i comodini, una passata di primer, una di colore e via, senza tante formalitá. Here is our place to dream. Our bedroom is slowly taking shape. It's the result of two days of full immersion in painting (I hate it!), just before Easter. What a satisfaction, and what a change! It really was worth the effort!

I decided to eventually paint the bed in off white, you maybe remember that previously the bed was originally like this (in the previous house) and then like this (in the new house, with the upper part of the header removed as I didn't like it). I took the occasion and I also painted the two bedside tables, they are mismatched but at ;east now they share the same colour, the lovely Skylight from Farrow&Ball, which I also used for the walls in the ensuite. I love that light french grey blue.

Durante queste vacanze Pasquali ci siamo messi sotto con chiodi e martello e abbiamo iniziato a studiare come (con i muri di cartongesso ovunque é un mondo nuovo e non é semplice) e dove appendere un pó di cosine. Per iniziare il pannello che Fiore mi aveva regalato a natale, specificamente inteso per la camera di cui io mi ero innomarata a suo tempo! Sta d'incanto anche se chiaramente tutto solo soletto risulta un pó strano. I muri intorno sono ancora vuoti ma pian piano si riempiranno di qualche decorazione e un pó di foto. E sulla mia adorata cassettiera é posato il bellissimo cuscino vinto in uno dei giveaway di Cata. Non é un amore?

During these Easter holidays we sorted out many things in the house, we also started to hang some mirrors and decorations (it's hard to learn how to do it as here all the walls are covered with plasterboard while in Italy usually they are all solid bricks walls). To start with we placed the angel panel that my friend Fiore gave me at Christmas behind the bed! It's perfect there, even if now, still completely alone it looks a bit dodgy! It will soon be accompanied by other decorations and pictures, also in the lateral wall. And, on my beloved chest of drawers sits perfectly the lovely cushions that I won in one of the many Cata's blog giveaway. Isn't it so pretty?

La soluzione che doveva essere super temporanea delle tende spaiate comincia a convincermi sempre di piú, per lo meno finché non mi viene una brillante idea (che per il momento non vedo all'orizzonte). Son i due colori preponderanti in camera: l'azzurro polvere e il beige, e non li vedo male sulle nostre 3 finestre.

The temporary solution of the mismatching curtains is becoming less temporary and more permanent. I am growing to like it, I think that I will keep them at least until I will have a great idea (which I don't see at the horizon for now). They are in the main colours of the room (beige and light blue) and I don't mind them for now.

Come nel mio stile, sono sempre i piccoli tocchi e dettagli che per me fanno la differenza. Questo piccolo uccellino, assolutamente e ossessivamente abbinato al resto dei colori (mi faccio paura da sola ...) é uno dei souvenir che abbiamo preso in Cornovaglia. Lo adoro e gli ho dato un posto d'onore appeso al pomolo del mio comodino!

As it typical in my style and taste, it's the little details that make the difference. This little wooden bird, absolutely and obsessively matching the room colours (I am scared of myself...) was a souvenir we bought in Cornwall. I totally love it and I gave a place of honour hanging from my bedside table drawer knob!

Anche la abat jour che avevo dipinto anni ed anni fa nel periodo d'affezione per i pennelli sta abbastanza bene abbinata al resto. Mi resta solo (tra le altre mille cose) da togliere le ragnatele ai pennelli, sperare di ricordarmi qualcosa, e dipingere anche la compagna di questa abat jour che al momento se ne sta bianca e un pó triste, sul comodino della mia dolce metá. Pensavo a stessi colori ma soggetto diverso, ....magari una colomba! Ma mi sa che faccio prima a comprarne una di bianca da abbinare all'altra e mettere in pensione la mia ;)

Also the abat jour that I painted many years ago is quite nice among the rest. I really need to clean away the cobwebs from the brushes, to hope I still remember something and to try and paint the other lamp, that at the moment is white and dull in Nicola's beside table. I was thinking to use the same colurs but a different subject, maybe a pretty dove! But I think it will be quicker and easier to buy another white one to match and send mine into early retirement ;)

Ultimi scorci tra cui il copripiumone a righe azzurro polvere e bianche che abbiamo da poco preso e che adoro, e che non fa altro che continuare a chiedermi un paio di cuscini decorativi con cui abbinarlo, e la parte di fronte al letto, con l'armadio a muro che non vi avevo ancora mai mostrato e che non fa altro che chiedermi due piccole decorazioni di stoffa, che siano cuori, uccellini o altro, da appendere ai suoi pomoli. Vediamo se riusciró ad esaudire le loro insistenti richieste!!!

Last views of the room, with the new grey blue and white stripes duvet cover that I love and keeps on asking me for some matching decorative cushions and the front part of the room, which I never showed you, where you see the entrance door and the fitted wardrobes, which are also continuously asking me for some cute decorations to hang on their wooden knobs. Let's see if I will be able to satisfy both their requests!!!

Cornwall part 2

Continua l'appuntamento con i luoghi che abbiamo visitato in Cornovaglia in questi pochi giorni di ferie appena passati. Come vi raccontavo giá qui, ecco la mappa dei luoghi e villaggi (con i cuoricini) che abbiamo scelto di (ri)visitare in questa occasione.

Here we are back again with the second part of our short Cornish holiday. As I already explained here, below you find the map with the places (with the hearts) we decided to (re)visit in this occasion.

Oggi é il turno di Polperro, uno dei luoghi che piú mi avevano affascinato nella nostra precedente vacanza. E devo dire che ha mantenuto esattamente l'immagine che avevo nei miei ricordi.

Un luogo unico! Un mix di britishness e mediterraneitá. Influenze inglesi, francesi, spagnole... un mix di colori e di atmosfere costali e piratesche. Un posto davvero speciale!

Today it's Polperro time, one of the places that fascinated me most last time we've been to Cornwall. And I have to admit it is still exactly as fascinating as in my memories. It's a unique place! A mix of britishness and mediterranean feel. There are british, french and spanish influences all around... a mix of colours and coastal and piraty atmosphere. A really special place!

Esattamente come Looe, é anche questo un porto del sud Cornovaglia. Si parcheggia parecchio fuori dato che le micro viuzze che lo caratterizzano non lascerebbero di sicuro spazio per parcheggiare le vetture, e con una bella passeggiata si arriva al centro e al porto.

Like Looe, it's a south Cornwall fishing harbour village. You have to park quite outside the village, as with all the narrow lanes it would be impossible to park inside, and with a short and nice walk you will reach the village centre and the harbour.

Le bellezze di Polperro sono tante

i dettagli, che sapete io amo, che siano una lampada dal sapore coastal, un balcone con i cuoricini intagliati, una parete di conchiglie, una barca di legno mangiata dal sale e dall'acqua, una decorazione particolare, un vaso di fiori colorato...

The highlights in Polperro are several:

the details, which as you know, I love, being them a coastal lamp, some shutters with hearts details, a wall full of shells, a wooden boat consumed by salt and sea, a particular decoration, a flower pot...

o il porticciolo con le barche che sembrano assopite nel godersi il sole primaverile

or the harbour with all the sleepy boats that seem to enjoy the mild spring sun

o i cottage che lo circondano

or the lovely cottage that surround the town

o le scogliere che lo sovrastano, che si possono raggiungere con una piccola e panoramica passeggiata, e che ti permettono di godere di una vista mozzafiato sul mare dai colori intensissimi verde e blue

or the cliffs that overlook the village, that you can reach with a short and panoramic walk, and that let you enjoy a great view over the green and blue sea

o le viuzze particolari, colorate, piene di angolini e di sorprese..

or the narrow and pictoresque lanes, full of corners and surprises...

o il silenzio e la pace che si puó respirare (probabilmente non in alta stagione o d'estate!)
