Making...

In questi ultimi tempi la craft room é praticamente "non camminabile" e la macchina da cucire tra un pó fuma! Colpa, o merito, delle ultime commissioni (che non vi mostro perché bene o male sono sempre le solite cose che faccio e che ho giá mostrato) e di una sfilza di regali e regalini per compleanni, nascite e varie ed eventuali...

Non vi posso mostrare ancora nulla finché non consegno.. ma per non lasciare il blog in silenzio e GIURO non per farvi un dispetto, vi mostro solo qualche piccola preview, qualche scorcio preso solo da una parte di queste cose....! :)

During the last period the craft room is so full and messy you can't even walk in and the sewing machine is almost going to melt down because of all the hard work! It's partly custom orders (which I don't show you because they are more or less always the same things) and partly a long list of little gifts for birthdays, newborn babies etc...

I can't show you anything until I give the gifts to the recipient but in the meantime I can show you just a sneak preview of some of these crafts... don't be angry with me please!!!

Sto per partire per un paio di settimane in Italia. Giorni di incontri, impegni e di qualche misero giorno di mare. Durante i giorni in Italia avró pochissimo accesso al pc ma ho preparato alcuni post che programmeró per i prossimi giorni! e FINALMENTE potró mostrarvi tutte queste cosine creative qui sopra man mano che le consegno.. e poi ci sará anche una "piccola" novitá che vi racconteró a brevissimo. Quindi... insomma.... restate sintonizzate ^_^!

Ah.. sono come sempre indietro con le mail, ormai faccio davvero fatica a seguire tutto e le mails purtroppo sono le prime a soffrire di questa cosa. Cercate di portare pazienza, prima o poi arrivo....

I am leaving for a couple of weeks in Italy, my homecountry. They will be days full of meetings, things to do and just little bit of sea. During those days in Italy I won't have much access to the internet, but I am preparing some posts that I will program for the next days. So I will be able to show you the crafts above and there will be also a little new that I will soon reveal. So stay tuned ;)

Well, I am as usual late with mail answering, it's been very difficult lately to deal with everything and mails are the first ones to suffer, so please be patient, I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Avebury tra cottage, misteri e magia...

Avebury é un villaggio minuscolo famoso principalmente perché é stato costruito all'interno di un cerchio di pietre di etá neolitica. Un cerchio di pietre sul genere del piú famoso cugino Stonehenge per intendersi. Non é molto distante da casa nostra eppure tra una cosa e l'altra non lo avevamo mai visitato.. fino a una domenica di un paio di settimane fa!

Avebury is a tiny village mainly famous because is built inside a very ancient stone circle, from the neolitic age, very similar to the famouse Stonehenge one. It's not far from where we live but we had never have the chance to visit it, until a sunday of a couple of weeks ago!

Le pietre saranno di interesse storico ma non sono sicuramente cosí fotogeniche come questi cottage MOZZAFIATO. E' incredibile, perché ci sono davvero pochissime case in questo villaggio eppure sono una piú bella dell'altro. Non sai nemmeno dove girare la testa.

The stones are obviously historically important but they are not as photogenic as the STUNNING cottages. It's amazing, there are just a few houses in this village, but every single one of them is gorgeous. You don't even know where to look!

Lavanda rigogliosa, malvone, digitale, roselline rampicanti e poi piccole decorazioni, dettagli, tetti di paglia, portoncini verde salvia... ogni angolo é una sorpresa.

Thriving lavender, hollyhocks, digitalis, climbing roses and small decorations, details, thatched roofs, sage green doors... every corner has a surprise.

E non si puó scegliere un periodo migliore, come ho sempre detto, per visitare le campagne inglesi, se non la tarda primavera fino all'estate, quando i colori dei fiori creano un quadro perfetto assieme alla cornice pittoresca dei cottage, della pietra, dei recinti, dei muretti. Un quadro meraviglioso.

And, as I always say, there is not better time to visit the british countryside then late spring until full summer, when the flowers colours make a perfect painting together with the frame made by the cottages, the stone, the fences and the little walls. A gorgeous painting.

Vedendo queste foto viene voglia di piantare rose e lavanda a non finire! Peccato che le mie sian ben lontana dall'essere rigogliose come queste, ma sono fiduciosa :D

Looking at the pictures I feel like planting even more and more roses and lavender! It's a shame mine are far from being thriving and vigourous like these, but I am optimist :D

E qualche casa con i mattoncini rossi originari su cui il contrasto delle finestre di legno bianche georgiane sta davvero d'incanto. Per non parlare della ringhiera di ferro bianco e di quel pullulare di rose rosso vivo! Pura delizia per i miei occhi!!!

And then some houses with the original red bricks that make a perfect contrast with the white wooden georgian sash windows and with the white iron fence. And what about those gorgeous red roses!!! Really an eye candy!!!

Ma siccome, non vorrei pensaste che sono una che guarda solo le case (no no, poooooco!!!) ecco qui per le interessate in storia e archeologia (e un pó di misteri e magia) qualche pietra del famoso e antichissimo circolo! Tra le pietre se ne stanno beate e noncuranti tante pecore fresche di tosatura e qualche mucca pezzata. Un fringuello super coraggioso ci ha anche fatto compagnia mentre bevevamo qualcosa in un bar e Nicola é riuscito a immortalarlo mentre era alla ricerca di briciole nel nostro tavolo. Ma quanto é carinoooo???

But because I don't want you to think that I am only interested in the houses (which honestly... I am ^_^) here one pic of the famous ancient stones! Among the stone you can find many sheep and some sleepy cow. A brave chaffinch kept us company while we were drinking in a garden pub, Nicola managed to take a pic of him while he was looking for crumbles on our table. Isn't he so cute???

E per finire un piccolo cenno a una delle caratteristiche della contea in cui viviamo, il Wiltshire. Tornando a casa abbiamo intravisto e immortalato uno dei famosi cavalli bianchi di gesso o pietra calcarea che lo caratterizzano. Sono piú o meno antichi, piú o meno grandi, piú o meno visibili, ma sono sparsi in tutta la regione e sono decisamente particolari e affascinanti.

Facendo qualche ricerca dopo essere stata ad Avebury e aver visto molti "strani" personaggi (folkloristici direi) girare per il paese, ho scoperto anche che il Wiltshire é avvolto da un velo magico e misterioso, dettato dalla presenza di Stonehenge ed Avebury, con tutte le relative credenze e misteri, e da una percentuale altissima di cerchi nel grano che si formano in queste zone (il 90% di quelli presenti in UK, e la maggior parte pare si formino entro un raggio di 15 km da avebury!). Ecco il perché del titolo di questo post. Non solo cottage ma anche un pochino di mistero? Che ci si creda o meno, che questi cerchi nel grano siano opera degli extraterrestri o di una manica di buontemponi, devo dire che queste cose mi hanno decisamente affascinata. Un pizzico di magia non guasta mai ;)

And finally a little bit about the county we live in, Wiltshire. Coming back home we saw and stopped to photograph, one of the many white horses made of chalk or limestone, that you find around all the region. Some of them are older, some are younger, some are bigger, some are smaller, some are more visible some are less, but you can find them in many hills around here.

After visiting Avebury then, I did read around in the internet and I found out that Wiltshire is surrounded by some kind of mysterious and magical aura. This is due to the presence of Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles, with all the mysteries and beliefs related to them, and to a very high frequency of the famous phenomenon of the crop circles (apparently around 90% of all the UK crop circles happen in Wiltshire and most of them in a radius of 15 km from Avebury). Well, I don't know if these are made by extraterrestrials or by people with a lot of spare time to waste, but I guess all this matter is really fascinating! And a little bit of magic never caused any harm ;)

A sweet place

Ed eccoci con i progressi in giardino che avevo promesso. La sfida é tra me e il mio pollice nero!!! Devo ammettere che qui il clima aiuta, che se magari c'e' un pó di sole per qualche giorno di seguito e mi dimentico di dare acqua la sera, le uniche che ne risentono sono le ortensie, il resto tiene botta bene!

Questo qui sotto é il lato sinistro del giardino, quello che gode di piú ore di sole al giorno. Ho piantato come vedete lavanda, rose, un topiaro di alloro, qualche geranio e qualche garofanino, le peonie (giá mostrate),un cespuglio per fare un pó di verde, dell'artemisia, delle campanule e qualche altra alpina. E poi l'angolino aromatico. In fondo nell'angolo é invece ancora vuoto. Il motivo é che stiamo valutando di mettere un piccolo shed (casetta di legno per gli attrezzi) davvero davvero piccolo perché lo spazio é poco piú di 1mq! Sarebbe piú decorativo che davvero necessario e quindi stiamo valutando il da farsi. Certo un pó di spazio in piú dove ficcare roba é sempre utile ma dobbiamo vedere se il gioco vale la candela. Naturalmente sarebbe una casetta color crema con una bella corona a cuore davanti e circondata da vasetti di fiori colorati :)

And here we are with the progresses in the garden, as I promised! It's a challenge between me and my gardening inexperience. I have to admit though, that the climate in the UK helps a lot. If by any chance we get some continuous sunny days and I forget to water my garden, the only plants that really suffer are the Hydrangeas, the rest are absolutely fine.

Down here you can see the left side of the garden, it's the sunny part. I planted lavender, roses, a laurel standard tree, some geranium and some carnations, an evergreen bush, one artemisia, some bluebells and other alpines. Then there is the little herbs corner. At the end though, you will see an empty area, that is because we are thinking about building a tiny tiny shed in there. It would be a very small one (approx. 1 sq metre) so it would be more decorative then really needed, hence we have to decide if it's worth or not. In any case, some extra storage is always welcome and obviously the shed would be a pretty cream with a heart wreath on the door and some flower pots around :)

Il giardino non é solo per noi umani o per i nostri compagni felini ma anche e soprattutto per i nostri amici pennuti. La casetta l'ho spostata qui, magari non verrá mai usata, per via del colore intenso e della posizione, ma é cosí carina e fa cosí country cottage!

The garden is not only for us human and for our feline friends but also and especially for our feathered friends. I moved the birdhouse in here, I am not very positive that it will be used (especially for the strong colour) but it's so cute even just to look at it... so country cottage style!

Di sicuro invece viene usata (e di gusto anche) la mangiatoia per uccellini che riempio di semini e vermetti secchi (bleahhhhhhhhh, ma vanno come il pane, anzi meglio del pane....). Mi piace tantissimo, l'abbiamo scelta tra molte perché era la nostra preferita con questa forma molto particolare e il tetto di ardesia. Il dubbio del momento é se lasciarla cosí o dipingerla color crema. Sicuramente color crema risalterebbe di piú e farebbe piú "cottage" ma la voglia é sotto zero :)

Vedremo....

Naturalmente manca ancora qualcosa di rampicante, dietro le peonie e in fondo, ma per il momento siamo in stand-by perché molto probabilmente dovremo cambiare lo steccato che sta cadendo a pezzi, per cui fino ad allora, niente rampicanti!

But one thing that is definitely being used is the bird table which I constantly fill with seeds and dried worms (not nice but apparently they are very yummy...). We chose it among many kinds because we fell in love with the quirky shape and the slate roof. The doubt now is between leaving it like this or painting it cream. I suppose that in cream it would look more quaint and it would stand out more in the garden, but I really don't feel like starting a job like that....

Obviously something climbing is still missing because probably we will need to change the fence soon and so there is no point in planting climbers now!

E questo é il lato destro del giardino, quello diciamo che sta un pochino piú all'ombra. Qui le ortensie stanno davvero benissimo, son belle e rigogliose, un bosso e qualche alpina fan loro compagnia... Dietro alle ortensie si fa strada una clematis bianca sempreverde che pian piano penseró a come far arrampicare sullo steccato e li' in fondo, il mio angolino stile "secret garden" é sempre piu coccolo, con accanto un bel catino vintage di zinco con le ortensie lilla per dare un pó di colore.

This instead is the shady part of the garden. In here the Hydrangeas really thrive and a boxus ball and some alpines are keeping its company. I also planted some white evergreen clematis behind those but I still have to work out what kind of structure to use to make it climb.

At the end down there you see my "secret garden" corner, which I love more and more everyday. I think the lilac Hydrangeas look lovely in the vintage zinc tub next to it.

Il lavoro non é di certo finito. Ci sono ancora un paio di zone completamente vuote, ma progettare, studiare, pensare e piantare non sono cose immediate.. pian piano il giardino prenderá sempre piú forma. Per questa estate peró, penso di aver giá dato :)

The job is not finished yet. A couple of areas are still completely empty ... but for this summer I think I am done ;) Slowly with the time everything will take the right place.

Craft room progress

Sará che é luglio, sará che ci é concesso davvero poco sole in questo paese e quando c'é é meglio goderselo, sará che sento l'atmosfera di vacanza anche se in vacanza non siamo, sará che ho tanti pensieri e tanti progetti di cui pian piano vi parleró, sará quel che sará ma in questo periodo sto combinando davvero poco. Lavoro in giardino (a presto con gli aggiornamenti), lavoro su commissioni arretrate, ma combino davvero poco rispetto a quello che potrei. E cosi, ho deciso che dovevo fare qualcosa di carino e soprattutto qualcosa PER ME per farmi tornare la voglia di fare. Ed ecco che son nate finalmente un pó di decorazioni per la craft room che era ferma da... ehmmm.. nn voglio nemmeno guardare la data in cui vi avevo mostrato un anticipino (qui) e avevo promesso che entro una settimana vi avrei mostrato il resto O_O no comment!!!

Maybe it's because it's july and in this country we don't get many sunny days so I want to take advantage of them as much as possible, maybe is the holiday mood even if we are not on a holiday yet, maybe it's the fact that I have many projects and many thoughts in my mind.. well in this period I am not doing a lot... I work in the garden (which I very soon will show you), I work on custom orders, but I don't do as much as I could. So, to try and get some enthusiasm and some good mood I made something pretty and especially something for ME.

So here are some new decorations for the craft room that was not progressing since.... ehmmmm.... I don't even want to see the date in which I showed you (in this post) some sneak peeks telling you that in a week or so it would be ready O_O no comment!!!

Cmq dai, stavolta ci siamo quasi.... sono a buon punto, anche perché ad essere onesti lo spazio sui muri non é chissá quanto ed é giá in gran parte riempito da mensole e lavagne e bacheche varie. Questo qui sotto era l'unica angolo vuoto e desolato, che negli ultimi giorni ho riempito come vedete.

Well, this time, honestly, we are almost there... also because there is not so much wall space to fill and this area was the only empty one that in the last days I finally fill as you see in these pics.

Due quadretti con applique di stoffine colorate di quelli che, come sapete, amo tanto! Tutto sui toni del rosso e verde salvia, che son i colori che ho deciso di usare per la craft room. E un quadretto, ispirato chiaramente al classico super british "keep calm and carry on" ma in versione craft ;) L'ho fatto con photoshop rubando dalla rete un'immaginina di macchina da cucire che poi ho rielaborato e mi piace un sacco.

Two fabric appliques little pictures, the kind of decorations you know I love! Evertyhing in the red and sage green colour scheme that are the colours I decided to use for the craft room. And another framed decoration, obviously inspired by the ever famous british "keep calm and carry on", but in a crafting version. I stole somewhere in the internet the little sewing machine images, I elaborated it with photoshop and I finally made and print this illustration that I quite like.

E una semplicissima ghirlanda di angeli Tilda. Sono tratti dal libretto "Tilda summer ideas". E' la prima volta che mi cimento con le frangette ma devo dire che questo look mi piace. E mi piace anche la semplicitá degli abitini, pochi fronzoli e molto d'effetto.

And a very simple Tilda angels garland. They are taken from the "Tilda summer idea" booklet. It;s the first time I deal with this kind of hairstyle and I quite like it. I also like the simplicity of these dresses.

Anche per loro i colori sono sempre quelli (vere salvia e rosso) e le fantasie di stoffine sono sempre quelle (pois, quadretti, righine e fiorati).. non mi discosto mai dai miei punti fermi ;)

The colours are always the same (sage green and red) and also the fabric patterns are always my favourites (polka dots, checks, stripes and florals)...

Una mensolina colorata ma provvisoria, andrá riempita con scatoline varie perché é incredibile ma lo spazio non basta mai :(

A cute coloured shelf. It's only temporary arranged because I will need to fill it with many boxes as storage is amazingly never enough :(

E infine un ADORABILE angioletto ciccione di tilda! E' il kake engel (cake angel, deduco) dell'ultimissimo libro di Tilda, Tilda's Studio, che sto aspettando con ansia di acquistare appena uscirá in inglese, mi pare questo agosto. Per il momento mi sono fatta prestare da un'amica il progetto di questo angioletto e in qualche modo nonostante la lingua norvegese, arrangiandomi qua e le, l'ho fatto.

And finally a super lovely chubby Tilda angel! It's the Kake Engel (cake angel, I guess) from the latest Tilda book, Tilda's Studio, which I am waiting to buy as soon as the english version (Tilda studio) will be on sale (should be around august). In the meantime I used the instruction that a friend lent me and I more or less managed to make it despite the norwegian language.

Mi piace davvero tantissimo, é buffo e tenero e cosí diverso dai classici (e sempre stupendi, per me) angeli Tilda.

I really love it so much, it's funny and cute, and very different from the usual (and always beautiful) Tilda angels.

E per oggi é tutto, e spero di farmi viva presto e non tra 10 gg come ormai é il mio ritmo, uffffff!!!

Cornwall part 4

Vi ricordate che mancano ancora due puntate della mia ormai quasi dimenticata (sigh!) mini vacanzina in Cornovaglia vero? ecco... oggi arriva la penultima!!!

In queste giornate di sole che va e viene (ma per lo meno ogni tanto viene!) qui in Uk e che fa boccheggiare le mie lettrici italiane (non vi invidio no no no) é proprio bello ricordare quell'aria di mare e quel profumo di brezza estiva!

Do you remember that there are still two missing episodes of my Cornwall reportage from our mini spring holiday? well... today it's the 4th one!!!

In these summer days, with the sun coming and going in the Uk and with a tropical and unbearable hot weather in Italy, I think it's nice to soak into these pictures to feel the the coastal atmosphere and that summer breeze feel!

Oggi vi porto a Mousehole. Ho tenuto il meglio per la fine.. anche se é difficile definire il "meglio" dato che ho amato ogni singolo angolo che abbiamo visitato.

Mousehole é un piccolo villaggio sul mare (ma va'?!) ed é assolutamente "stunning"! é un vero amore... pieno di scorci stupendi. Ecco, possiamo pure dire che ogni angolo qui é uno scorcio... nn ci si puó sbagliare :)

Today I take you to Mousehole. I kept the best at last... even if it's difficult to decide what is actually the best, since I loved every place we visited in Cornwall.

Mousehole is a lovely quaint seaside village and it's absolutely stunning! It's really cute... full of amazing pictoresque views, well actually every corner of this village is a postcard view. You can't go wrong here :)

Saró di poche parole oggi, un pó per fretta e un pó perché penso che questi luoghi siano talmente belli che ogni descrizione sarebbe sprecata. Per cui... a voi!
