Lavender cottage

Oggi un piccolo saluto un pó di corsa, perché in questo periodo sono abbastanza piena di impegni, non ho tempo per stare al pc e quindi un piccolo post di creazioni cade proprio a fagiolo!!!

Vi ricorderete le varie versioni di quadretti che ho fatto in passato.. beh non mi stanco mai di mixare i vari soggetti (uccellini, gattini, cani, casette, alberi e quant'altro) e creare nuove combinazioni di immagini e di colori.

Today just a quick hello, a bit on a hurry, cos I am very busy in this period... I really don't have any time to stay on the pc so a little crafty post is just perfect!

You probably remember all the pictures with appliqued scenes I created lately.. well, I never get bored in mixing the little characters (birdies, kitties, dogs, trees, houses etc.) and trying new colour combinations.

Questa volta l'occasione é stata il voler fare un piccolo regalino di Natale alla bimba di 6 mesi di una delle mie piú care amiche! Lei (o meglio la sua mamma heheheh) adora il lilla e il viola e tutte le loro sfaccettature e cosí ho pensato a questa versione!

This time the occasion was a gift I wanted to make for the 6 months old baby girl of one of my dearest friends! She (or maybe.. well.. her mother!!! LOL ^_^) loves lavender and purple and all their shades, so I thought to make this version for her!

My teeny tiny laundry room

Finalmente la lavanderia é pronta per essere mostrata!!! Ma prima di tutto, per presentarvela a dovere.. un piccolo riassunto di com'era... A cominciare dalla sua nascita, nell'autunno del 2010, quando abbiamo deciso di ampliare la cucina e inserire una piccola lavanderia al suo fianco. Ecco gli step-by-step.

At last the laundry room is ready to be shown!!! But first of all, let me introduce it to you properly..... with a little summary of how it was born, during autumn 2010, when we decided to extend the kitchen and create a small utiliy area next to it. Here are the step-by-step.

Ed eccola qui, la nostra super lavanderia in ben 1,7m (scarsi) x 1,3m (scarsi)! Piccola ma super efficiente. Certo il mio sogno sarebbe una vera e propria maxi lavanderia/ripostiglio/mudroom, di quelle che si vedono nelle case americane!

...ma invece mi accontento di questa lavanderia/rispotiglio e vi diró che é la stanza di cui sono piú orgogliosa dal punto di vista organizzativo e per come l'ho disegnata da zero, perché ci voleva quasi un miracolo per farci stare tutto in cosí poco spazio.

Here it is, our super laundry room in 1,7m x 1,3m! Small but very efficient.
Obviously my dream would be to have a big laundry/utility/storage room, like the ones you see in the huge american houses!
...but I am happy enough with this small laundry/storage room, and if I have to be honest, this is the room that I am most proud of from the organization point of view, as I designed it from scratch and it was almost a miracle to fit everything we needed inside this small space.

La cosa che amo di piú sono questi 4 ampi pensili! Ci sta l'infinito dentro! Tutti i prodotti per la pulizia casa (eccetto aspirapolvere e mocio che sono in un piccolo spazietto-sottoscala adiacente alla sala da pranzo), i detersivi, il ferro da stiro ecc.ecc. e in piú c'é molto spazio per immagazzinare altra roba (scottex di riserva, cibo penny di riserva, cibo uccellini di riserva ecc.)

The thing I love most are these 4 wall cabinets! They have a lot of space inside. I fit inside all my cleaning products and accessories (except the hoover and the mop, which are in a little storage area under the staircase in the dining room) plus the washing products, the iron etc. plus some storage for extra stuff.

Sará anche una stanza di "utilitá" ma non per questo dev'essere brutta, noiosa o incasinata... io ho deciso persino di decorarla un pó sui muri. Ho disegnato con photoshop questi quadretti (usando questi due caratteri "wash care symbols classic M54" e "Ballpark weiner") in tinta con il resto della stanza e li ho stampati e incorniciati in cornici ikea ricilate dal matrimonio.

Qui dentro é quasi tutto all'insegna dell'handmade e del riciclo. Qui sotto ecco il portamollette. Non ho usato un cartamodello preciso.. l'ho disegnato io al momento usando un appendino da bambini (largo circa 30 cm, non molto facile da trovare ahime)

Even if it's just a utility room I don't see why it has to be ugly, or boring or messy... I also decided to decorate its walls a bit. I designed with photoshop these two pictures (using these two fonts "wash care symbols classic M54" and "Ballpark weiner") matching the rest of the stuff, then I printed and framed them in Ikea frames (recycled from the wedding).
Inside here most of the things are recycled or handmade. Down here is my pegs bag. I didn't use a particular pattern/tutorial to make it. I just invented it adapting the size and shape to my coat hanger (which was a child size, around 30cm wide).

E questo é stato il vero osso duro... la fodera per il cesto. Ho seguito un pó di tutorial in rete, prevalentemente questo, che é davvero ben fatto, ma ammetto che ho faticato un pó. Alla fine non posso lamentarmi perché l'effetto finale é carino, anche se vi assicuro che é tutto meno che perfetto, specie intorno alle maniglie.

And this was the hardest part... the basket lining. I followed some tutorials online, mostly this one, which is very good. But I find it quite tricky to make. At the end of the day I can't complain because the final effect is not too bad, even if, looking at it closely you see that is far from perfect.

L'appendino é, come la mensolina all'altro lato, un rimasuglio di acquisti fatti molti anni fa a mercatini dell'usato qui in UK. Acquistati probabilmente per 1-2 sterline. Li ho ridipinti di bianco panna e ora fanno davvero bella figura e sono contenta di averli conservati in vista di possibili futuri usi che finalmente sono arrivati.

The hook rack is, like the shelf on the other side, an old purchase from a car boot sale (used stuff market) here in the UK. I probably paied them around1-2 pounds each. I the repainted them in ivory and now they are looking lovely in the room. I am happy I kept them for any possible future use that finally arrived.

Sul piano di lavoro, che é in laminato effetto rovere, ci sono, oltre la cesta per i panni da stirare, tutta una serie di contenitori e bacinelle nei toni del crema, indispensabili per una lavanderia in pieno uso.

Il contenitore di latta é un regalo che mi sono fatta e lo adoro. Ha al suo interno un altro contenitore simile a scomparti, che mi porto in giro per casa con i vari prodotti quando faccio le pulizie. Quando si dice "unire l'utile al dilettevole"!

On the worktop, which is a oak effect laminate, you'll find, besides the basket for the clothes to iron, some cream bowls and containers which are necessary for a laundry in full use.
The enamel housekeeper box was a gift I made to myself and I love it. It has a tray inside with different compartments which I fill with the cleaning products and sponges and I take around the house while I clean.

Sul lato destro della stanza c'é l'altra mensolina riciclata. Han trovato posto la scatola contenente le pastiglie per la lavatrice e il contenitore con l'anticalcare. Notare bene che sono entrambi pieni e belli pesanti e la mensola regge... (siiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!)

On the right side of the room there is the other old recycled shelf. I put the box with the washing machine tablets and a jar with the decalcifier. Please note that both the containers are full and quite heavy, and despite that the shelf is still standing :)))))

Ai pomoli ho appeso il portasacchetti di plastica abbinato al resto e un cuoricino ripieno di lavanda che da' un buon profumo di pulito alla stanzina.

On the knobs I hang the plastic bags holder matching the rest and a fabric heart filled with lavender that gives a nice smell to the room.

Mi piace tutto questo candore con tocchi di azzurro. Rende l'ambiente luminoso (ed é davvero una sfida.. considerate che tutte le foto sono super photoshoppate per dare luminositá) e delicato. Da' un senso di pulito, come una lavanderia dovrebbe dare.

I love all this whiteness with some blue touches. It gives the room some light (which is very needed... consider that I had to lighten all the pictures with Photoshop!!!). It also gives a cleanliness feel, that in a laundry room is what you expect to find.

Non poteva mancare un piccolo lavandino. La dimensione massima che potevamo mettere ahime'! Non é un grande lavabo come quello dove la mia nonna faceva il bucato ma nei tempi moderni bisogna adeguarsi agli "spazi moderni" e questo lavandino d'angolo mi é utilissimo per smacchiare e riempire le bacinelle. Abbiamo persino scelto il rubinetto con il collo piú alto possibile per poter inserire agevolmente la bacinella del mocio :) In casa nostra é tutto calcolato e tutto su misura!!!

E ovviamente qui sotto vedete anche il copriasse abbinato al resto. A breve vi racconteró come l'ho fatto, anche se ci sono mille e piú tutorial in rete (come sempre).

A small basin was obviously needed. It has the maximum dimension that we could fit in there! Is not the huge ceramic sink which my granny used to wash clothes by hand , but in the modern times you have to deal with modern spaces as well, I am afraid... so this corner basin is very useful to remove stain from clothes and to fill the bigger bowls. We also chose the tap with the tallest neck to be able to fit the mop bowl easily! Everything in our house is calculated and custom chosen.
Here you can see also the ironing board cover I made in the same fabric of the rest. I will soon show you how I usually do it, even if there are already many tutorials out there in the web.

E con questo é tutto! La to-do list (vedi qui) é completata e non mi resta che... andare a stirare :)

Laundry room - wip & girl power

In attesa di finire un paio di cosine dalla to-do list della lavanderia e soprattutto in attesa di un piccolo accenno di sole (altrimenti é impossibile fotografare questa microstanzina con finestrella esposta a nord e verso il muro dei vicini) vi racconto come stanno proseguendo i lavori...

Beh ieri pomeriggio é stato per me un momento memorabile!!! Vi ricordate i miei buoni propositi dello scorso anno (vedi qui)? Al punto 6 c'era "imparare a mettere viti e tasselli, usare una bolla, il trapano ecc.ecc.".

Con un piccolo sforamento di 24 giorni ieri ho finalmente rispettato questo proposito :)

While I wait to finish a couple of things from my laundry room to-do list and most of all, while I wait for a peek of sun (to be able to take pictures of the room, as it is very small and with a small window towards north and towards my neighbours wall) I tell you something about the wip..

Well, yesterday afternoon it was unforgettable for me!!! Do you remember my new year's resolution from last year (see here)? Well, number 6 was: "learn to deal with raw plugs, spirit levels, screwdrivers etc."

With a little delay of 24 days, yesterday I eventually fulfilled this resolution :)

Tutta sola soletta mi sono fatta coraggio (se aspetto nicola posso star fresca.. lui é un "teorico, non un pratico" .. come si é autodefinito!). Bolla, trapano, punte varie, tasselli super-speciali-complicati per muri cavi (qui in UK quasi tutti i muri interni sono cavi, formati da un'intelaiatura di legno coperta da un rivestimento sottile, tipo cartongesso) e mi sono lanciata!

Al grido di Girl Power e non senza tirare 4-5 parolacce sono riuscita a montare questa mensola e questo appendino :)))

E sono persino dritti O_O incredibile!!!

Queste SONO soddisfazioni.

{magari saró l'unica che non sapeva montare una mensola.. ma per me queste piccole cose sono importanti ed é bello imparare e magari non dover chiamare un omino da pagare ogni volta che dobbiamo montare qualcosa}

All alone I took courage ( if I wait for Nicola, my husband, I can wait forever... as he is "a theoretical person, not a practical one .. as he said about himself). I grabbed the spirit lever, the screwdriver and the super special/complicated raw plugs for cavity walls and I launched into it!

I managed to fix these shelf and hook rack, with the "girl power" motto in my mind, and not without some swearwords coming out from my mouth :)))

And they are even straight O_O amazing!!!

These are BIG satisfactions.

{maybe I am the only one out there who was not able to fix a shelf, but for me it was an important step, as I am tired to call someone and pay him every time we need to fix something on a wall}

Ora si torna ai lavori di stoffa... piú semplici e meno avventurosi per me :)

Spero domani (sole permettendo) di riuscire a fotografare il risultato finale...

Laundry room (Making of)

Quest'anno per me é iniziato proprio svogliato e a rilento :( Non ho listato i buoni propositi (specie dopo che, come sempre accade, ne ho rispettati si e no metá di quelli dell'anno scorso!) e non sono ancora "partita" con grinta ad affrontarlo seriamente. L'umore ballerino non aiuta ma ho tante idee e tanti progetti che spero di riuscire a portare a termine.

Per trovare la voglia di fare e l'ispirazione e soprattutto per migliorare l'organizzazione mia e dei miei tempi (ne ho un estremo bisogno) ho notato che é importante partire dall'organizzazione degli spazi. L'ordine e l'organizzazione intorno a me mi aiuta a sentirmi in ordine e organizzata.

Per cui prima di partire con vecchie e nuove commissioni/nuovi piccoli e grandi progetti di vita e lavorativi/nuove idee/miglioramento e sistemazione blog e tanto altro... voglio cercare di -per cosí dire- finire di organizzare la casa!

This year has started a bit on the slow side for me :( I didn't list my new year resolutions (also because, as usual, I only fulfilled more or less half of them!) and I haven't officially "started off" in full gear. The wobbly mood obviously doesn't help but I have many projects and ideas which I hope to complete in the next months.

To find willpower and inspiration and most of all to improve the organisation of my life and my time (I really need it) I noticed that it's important to start with the organization of your space. Living in a tidy and organized environment helps me feel more tidy and organized.

So before starting with new and old orders/big and small personal and work projects/new ideas/sorting out and improving blog structure and much more... I would like to finish the house organization and decoration!

Avevo iniziato ad affrontare il salotto.. ma mi sono resa conto che (visto il periodo un pó svogliato) era meglio partire da qualcosa di un pó piu piccolo e meno impegnativo.

Per cui sto finalmente sistemando la lavanderia! Ho scelto il colore che sará questo "duck egg blue" che vedete nelle stoffe qui sotto (un misto di verde acqua e blue, difficile da spiegare in italiano)... ero partita dall'idea di usare due colori, in particolare l'azzurro e il rosso, ma poi, in un ambiente cosí piccolo mi sembrava sarebbero stati troppo "pesanti". Ho iniziato a prendere le misure, disegnare modelli, tirare fuori colore e pennelli e mi son messa al lavoro.

I was starting off with the living room... but then I realized that (being the period not very productive) it was better to begin from something smaller and less daunting.

So I am finally sorting out the laundry/utility room! I chose the main colour which will be the duck egg blue you see in the fabrics below ... I actually wanted to use two colours at the beginning (red and light blue) but then, being the room so small, I thought they would be too much for it. I started to take measurements, to draw some designs, to take out paint and brushes and I started to work on this room.

La "TO DO list" era/é parecchio lunga ma fattibile:

- dipingere cesto per la biancheria da stirare (in lavorazione)

- cucire fodera per cesto

- cucire copriasse da stiro abbinato al resto
- cucire 3-4 strofinacci abbinati (fatto solo uno finora)

- cucire portasacchetti di plastica (fatto - vedi scorcio piú sopra)

- cucire portamollette (fatto - vedi scorcio piú sopra)

- dipingere vecchia mensolina con pomoli (fatto - vedi sotto)

- dipingere vecchio appendino con pomoli (fatto - vedi sotto)

- attaccare al muro appendini di cui sopra

- comprare 2 bacinelle color panna (quelle gialle che ho le ricicleró per lavori sporchi e le metteró in garage)

- creare qualche sorta di decorazione (scritta? quadretto? pannellino di stoffa?) per il pezzetto di muro rimanente

The "TO DO list" is quite long but doable:

- paint the basket for the clothes to iron (working on it at the moment)

- sew lining for the basket

- sew ironing board cover
- sew 3-4 teatowels

- sew plastic bags holder (done - see above for a peek of it)

- sew pegs holder (done - see above for a peek of it)

- paint shelf with peg rack (done - see below)

- paint peg rack (done - see below)

- fix the two shelves to the wall

- buy a couple of cream washing bowls (the yellow ones I have now will go in the garage for "dirty jobs")

- create some kind of decoration for the little wall space remaining (a print? something made of fabric? some wood letters? I will see)

Sto lavorando a pieno ritmo... per cui spero di potervi mostrare al piu presto (magari giá settimana prossima) il risultato. Non vedo l'ora di avere questa mini mini lavanderia/sgabuzzino sistemato, organizzato e soprattutto il piú carina possibile!

I am working a lot... so I hope to be able to show you something as soon as possible, maybe already next week. I am looking forwards to having this tiny laundry room/utility room sorted out, organized and as pretty as possible!

A touch of spring

In queste giornate meravigliose, baciate, qui in UK, da cieli azzurri e sole luminoso (e di conseguenza ghiaccio e gelo tremendi e super invernali...) viene da pensare a quando, fra non troppo tempo (spero) potremo riprendere possesso degli spazi aperti. Quando potremo goderci il primo tepore primaverile, vedere fiori germogliare e sedersi a mangiare i giardino!

Un piccolo tocco di primavera lo da' giá questo angelo a fiori con una rosa tra le mani e un'aria molto delicata e primaverile.

During these gorgeous sunny (and freezing) days here in the UK you can't avoid to think and look forward to the time (hopefully not too far away) when we'll be able to enjoy the outdoor and the sun a bit more. I keep on thinking about when we'll be able to enjoy the first spring warm air, to see the first flower buds blooming, and to sit out in the garden to eat.

In the meantime this flower angel with a lovely rose in her hands can give a strong touch of spring.

E' stato uno dei regali di natale (che ancora devo finire di mostrarvi ovviamente...) e, devo dire, uno di quelli che piú mi é piaciuto fare e che piú mi é piaciuto osservare una volta finito.

It's one of the christmas gifts I made (I still have to show you many of them..) and, I have to say, it's one of the ones I enjoyed making the most, and one I really loved the result.

L'angelo é sempre quello che avevo giá fatto in azzurro tempo fa (qui) tratto dal libro "Shabby Home - Idee per creare" di Francesca Ogliari. E' un modello che letteralmente adoro!!!

The angel pattern is the same I made some time ago in blue (see here), from the book "Shabby Home - Beautiful creations" from Francesca Ogliari. It's a pattern I totally love!!!

Dining room (...about decluttering and sorting out)

Anno nuovo e voglia di sistemare, buttare via, riorganizzare, insomma immergersi nel cosiddetto "decluttering"! Come primo passo ho affrontato parte della sala da pranzo.

E' l'unica stanza del piano terra che da' verso il fronte della casa per cui mi piace che sia sempre in ordine e che presenti bene la casa dalla sua grande finestra.

New year has come, and with it also the typical desire to sort out, reorganize, throw stuff away, in a few words: "decluttering"! As a first step I dealt with part of the dining room.
It's the only room of the ground floor that faces to the front of the house, so I would like it to be always tidy and lovely, to present the house nicely from its big window.

A dire il vero non la usiamo mai come sala da pranzo (preferiamo mangiare in cucina, anche quando abbiamo ospiti) ma la usa Nicola ogni tanto quando lavora da casa.. e per me é importante per tenere un pó di cose nei vari mobili.

Actually we never use it as a dining room (we prefer eating in the kitchen, also when we have guests) but Nicola uses it every now and again when he works from home.. and for me is important for storage as well.

Ci ha trovato posto tutto quello che avevamo nella sala da pranzo della casa vecchia, quindi la tavola rettangolare e la mia adorata credenza (entrambe acquistate usate su ebay anni fa per pochissimi soldi, due tra i miei affari migliori ad oggi) in cui, mi sono decisa a liberare gran parte delle mensoline e lasciare solo poche, pochissime cose, ma che amo molto, nei colori dominanti che sono il rosa pallido e il verde salvia.

I furnished it with the same pieces we had in the old house dining room, so the rectangular table and my beloved dresser (both bargains in ebay a few years ago) in which I finally started to declutter the shelves and to leave there only a few things that I particularly love and that matches well the light pink/sage green colour scheme of the room.

E con l'occasione mi sono decisa a sistemare anche l'interno. In cucina non ho spazio per tenere tovaglie di ricambio e servizi "occasionali", cosí ripongo tutto qui. Ho fatto una bella pulizia di oggetti, tessuti e accessori, tenendo solo le cose che piú amo e che piú uso. Nei cassetti ho messo strofinacci, presine e grembiuli, e dentro le ante: tovaglie, tovagliette, tovaglioli oltre a ceramiche e contenitori per occasioni speciali e cene con amici.

With the occasion I also tidied the inside of the dresser. I don't have any room in the kitchen for spare tablecloths and teatowels, and for occasional crockery, so I put everything in here. I sorted out many things: accessories, kitchen textiles, etc. putting in the garage the stuff I don't like/use anymore or the things that don't match my current colour schemes. In the drawers I stored the teatowels and pot holders and inside the cabinet I stored the tableclothes, placemats and napkins, plus all the occasional nice crockery for dinner with guests.

Mi piace davvero tanto passare e vedere la stanza ordinata e tutta coordinata!

I really enjoy looking at the room now that is so tidy and well coordinated!

Certo il lavoro non é finito. C'é un altro mobile con cassettoni da sistemare nel lato opposto alla credenza, e c'é il muro di destra (di fronte alla finestra) che é vuotissimo e tristissimo! Ma non si puó mica fare e finire tutto subito se no poi che si fa senza progetti?!

Obviously the job is not finished. There is another chest of drawers on the opposite side of the dresser to sort out and there is the wall on the right side that is still completely sad and empty! But I can't do and finish everything that quickly, also because then, if you remain without projects at all it's quite sad!

E nel frattempo.. in solo un paio di gg, ecco qui cosa sta spuntando, proprio nel davanzale della sala da pranzo! Un mini mini mini mini mini giacinto bianco :) (mai visti di cosí piccoli, ma meglio piccoli che niente!!!) Speriamo che il mio esperimento "riciclo indoor di bulbi da anno in anno" funzioni (vedi post precedente) e che questo sia solo il primo di molti mini giacinti in giro per casa...

And in the meantime... have a look what it's growing, exactly in the dining room windowsill! A tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny white hyacinth :) (I have never seen any of them so tiny! well better tiny than nothing at all!!!).
So I hope that this first "indoor bulbs recycling" will work out (see previous post) and hopefully this will be only the first one of many little hyacinths around home ...

L'anno scorso, piú o meno in questo periodo, mi sono fatta travolgere dall'amore per le piantine primaverili da bulbo, come giacinti, narcisi e simili, che in questo periodo iniziano a riempire negozi di fiori, magazzini di fai-da-te e supermercati..

Last year, more or less around this period, I was overwhelmed by a passion for spring bulbs, like hyacinth, daffodils etc.., that at this time of the year start to fill all the flower shops, diy stores and supermarkets..

E' impossibile resistere... e cosí ne compravo un vasetto da tre praticamente ad ogni spesa settimanale!

It was impossible to resist ... so I started to buy a pot of three at every weekly shopping!

A fine fioritura mi sono ritrovata con tantissimi bulbi e il dubbio su cosa farne... Non volevo piantarli in giardino perché mi piace l'idea di avere questi bei fiori freschi che crescono in casa, cosí mi sono informata, ho letto ovunque, studiato, ma poi come sempre su internet si trova tutto e il contrario di tutto e in ogni caso la mia pigrizia innata ha vinto e ho deciso di fare un pó da me nel modo piú semplice...

At the end of their flowering season I found myself with many bulbs and the doubt about what to do with them... I didn't want to plant them in the garden, cos I like the idea of having these early flowers inside the house, so I started to read and study in the internet, finding as usual many different opinions and suggestions, and ended up doing it in the easy way...

Ne ho quindi conservati una ventina in vari vasetti, metá lasciati all'aperto e metá in casa (nel dubbio!), ad alcuni avevo tagliato le foglie (come consigliato in alcuni siti) ad altri ho invece lasciato le foglie seccarsi da sole (come consigliato in altri siti)

I simply kept around 20 of them in their pots, half indoor and half outdoor, I cut the leaves on some of them (as suggested somewhere) and left the leaves on some others (as suggested somewhere else!)

Quest'anno mi ritrovo con tanti piccoli butti che ho da poco rinvasato in vari contenitori, tazze, vasetti (che vedete in tutte queste foto) e posizionato un pó dappertutto, su davanzali, in cucina, in sala da pranzo, in salotto...

A parte un paio che sono ingialliti e temo stiano marcendo (devo averli bagnati troppo dopo il rinvaso) gli altri sembrano ben messi e mi danno speranza.... ora vediamo che succede!

Vi terró ovviamente aggiornate se qualcosa fiorirá.. tenete le dita incrociate con me ^_^!

So this year I find myself with many little sprouts and I repotted them in different pots, containers, mugs (that you see in all these pics) and positioned them everywhere, in the kitchen, on windowsills, in the dining room, in the living room...

Except for a couple of them,that I am afraid are rotting down (I probably watered them too much), the others seem sturdy and healthy and are giving me some hope.... so let's see what will happen!

I obviously will keep you posted... in the meantime please keep your finger crossed for some bulbs to flower ^_^!

E' strano come curarsi delle piante e del giardino ti faccia vivere le stagioni in un modo che non avevo mai vissuto. Aspettare che l'inverno passi, osservare le piante in giardino notando delle piccole gemme che per magia compaiono giorno dopo giorno nel mezzo di tutto quel seccume.. e immaginare se e come fiorirá tutto di nuovo tra pochi mesi!
Sará il fatto di vivere a stretto contatto con la natura, ma da quando vivo qui, e da quando abbiamo una casa nostra e un giardino nostro da curare, ogni piccola cosa é un'esperienza nuova e importante per me.
Cose semplici come dare da mangiare agli uccelli che frequentano il nostro giardino, scegliendo e individuando gli alimenti che preferiscono, o tentare di "coltivare" un pó di bulbi da un anno all'altro mi rendono semplicemente felice.

It's amazing how taking care of plants and of a garden can make you feel and live the different seasons in a very strong way. Waiting the end of the winter noticing in the garden some new buds in the middle of the dried and sleeping plants, thinking about how it will all come to life in a few months and imagining how it will be...
Maybe it's because we live very close to nature, but I noticed that, since I live here, and since we take care of our house and our garden, every new little experience is so important to me.
Simple things like feeding the birds in our garden and choosing the food they love best or trying to make some bulbs survive from one year to another, just, simply, make me happy.

ps: consigli ed esperienze sono ovviamente come sempre benaccette :) mi potrebbero servire per il prossimo anno se questo esperimento fallisce!

Warm winter pouches

Ormai sará evidente che la mia passione principale e una delle cose che piú amo creare sono le pochette. Sará che adoro la loro versatilitá e il fatto che sono sempre utili e non bastano mai (almeno a me!).

Per due mie carissime amiche quest'anno ho pensato a queste due piccole pochette invernali (che cmq vanno bene per tutto l'anno ovviamente!).

Ho pensato ai loro colori preferiti e sono nate loro.

Una color verde blue, il colore del mare, l'altra lilla e viola. Lanette e tweed invernali (che trovo ogni tanto in negozi di scampoli per abbigliamento, sia in Italia che in UK), bottoni colorati e fodere a pois.

Il modello é sempre sempre sempre lo stesso (lo adoro che ci devo fare???) ovvero la Curvy Clutch di Keyka Lou....

It's surely clear by now that one of my main passions, and one of the crafts I prefer to make, are pouches. Maybe it's because they are so versatile and because you can never have too many of them, they are so useful for a girl!

So, for two very dear friends of mine ,I created these two wintery pouches in their favourite colours.

One is in a lovely blue-green and the other in lavender and purple. Then wool, tweed (that I find in clothing and furnishing fabric shops both in italy and in the uk), many coloured buttons and some polka dots lining.

The pattern is always the same (I totally love it, what can I do?): the Curvy Clutch from Keyka Lou...

And here they are!

Di corsa, di corsa, al volo, prima che l'epifania tutte le feste si porti via (anche se in UK l'epifania non si festeggia, oggi é un giorno come un altro e, tra l'altro, tenere l'albero e le decorazioni oltre la dodicesima notte, che qui viene considerata il 5 sera, porta sfortuna, ma a me poco interessa perché le superstizioni le trovo stupide e non mi piacciono...), vi lascio il mio ultimo scorcio natalizio dal salotto!!!

Quick, quick! before Epiphany takes away the festive season (in Italy, the festive season ends tonight, even if in the Uk and I guess also somewhere else there are the "12days of Christmas" and so the festive season is already over since last night, and having the christmas stuff still out brings bad luck, which I completely don't care about because I don't like superstitions!) I'll leave you a last peek from our Christmassy living room!

L'avete vista la new entry? E' arrivata la tanto discussa mensola (vi ricordate qui? mensola si, mensola no, mensola come, mensola di che colore ecc.). Alla fine ha vinto il mio cuore country e la voglia di sentirmi in un cottage di campagna. Una semplice mensola bianca con un piccolo cuoricino intagliato (che fa tanto tirolo, lo so!) per dare un pó di aria country cottage.

Have you seen the new entry? It's been installed the much discussed shelf (do you remember here: shelf or shelf not? which colour? which shape? etc.) and at the end, as you see, my country heart and the "dream" of feeling like I was living in a country cottage won. So a simple white shelf with a cute heart to give a bit of a country cottage feel.
{also please note the lovely little house/lantern that my friend Fiore gave at Christmas.. LOOOVE IT!}

Embroidery hoops mania

Come da tradizione a Natale io e le mie comari Marty e Fiore ci scambiamo come pensierino delle decorazioni natalizie.

Da tempo ero affascinata dall'idea di utilizzare le cornici da ricamo (embroidery hoops) e decorarle per creare quadretti o, nel mio caso, piccole decorazioni per la casa o per l'albero (sono solo 10 cm di diametro). Ne ho viste moltissime e di tutti i tipi in giro per internet (date un'occhiata veloce qui per vedere quante belle idee e personalizzazioni ci possono essere) e tra le tante mi sono letteralmente INNAMORATA di queste, che ho poi scoperto essere tratte dal blog "A bit of pilli pilli" (di cui anche, mi sono innamorata)

E cosí, in parte con l'ispirazione tratta da quel blog e in parte con la mia fantasia sono nate queste!

Me and my friends Marty and Fiore have been building up a tradition to exchange, among each other, some christmas decorations as Christmas gifts.

I have been fascinated for a long time by the idea of using the embroidery hoops as frames for lovely hanging pictures or, in my case, for little decorations (they are only 10cm of diameter). I saw so many cute and different ones browsing on the internet (have just a quick look here to have an idea of how many different ways you have to personalise them), and among all of them, I fell in love with these that I found out are from this lovely blog "A bit of pilli pilli".

So, partly with the inspiration from that blog and partly from my ideas, I made these cute decorations down here.

Le ho fatte in tre versioni (moltiplicate per due amiche). Un piccolo snowman, due simpatiche rennine e un dolcissimo uccellino (immancabile no???).

Il fondo é in lino (che metterei ovunque come ben sapete) e un bel fiocchetto gingham le completa nascondendo l'antiestetico gancetto.

I made them in three versions (multiplied by two). A little snowman, two funny reindeer and a cute little bird (could I avoid to put a little bird??? of course not!)

The background is linen (which I would put everywhere as you know!) and a cute gingham bow completes everything hiding also the not-so-pretty metal fixings above.

Posso dire che le adoro??? Non so come ho potuto vivere fino ad adesso senza riciclare delle cornicette da ricamo :D

Can I honestly say that I love them??? I don't really know how I have been able to live until now without using the embroidery hoops as decorations :D

Nativity appliques

Aprofitto del clima natalizio che ancora (per poco) si respira intorno per mostrarvi questi due regali che ho fatto questo Natale a delle persone molto care.

Sono state un bel lavoraccio e sicuramente quando ho immaginato nella mia testina di fare dei centrotavola natalizi con soggetto il Presepe non pensavo che la cosa avrebbe richiesto tanto tempo e tanto lavoro. Non sono una che lavora molto con applique o patchwork (direi zero) per cui avevo dimenticato il tempo che richiede scegliere gli abbinamenti, disegnare le sagome, tagliarle, e poi applicarle, rifinirle ecc.

I take advantage of the Christmas feel that is still around to show you these two gifts I made for some people very dear to me.

They have been hard work to make, because I don't work a lot with patchwork and applique, so I forgot the times and effort it takes to chose the fabric, draw the patterns, cut the figures, applique and stitch them up etc.

Ma per lo meno, per fortuna il risultato é stato piú o meno come sperato (non sempre accade... anzi!) e quindi la soddisfazione ha compensato il tempo richiesto.

But at least, at the end, the result was more or less like I imagined it my head (and that is not to take for granted, at all!!!) so the satisfaction paied off the time involved in making them.

Per entrambi i centrotavola ho usato come modello un presepe tratto dal libro di Art to heart "Star of wonder", in parte rielbarato da me (ho aggiunto bue e pecora tratti da un altro libretto piu vecchio di cui non ricordo il nome). Ma invece che usare le classiche stoffe da patchwork e applique ho preferito mantentere il mio stile piú moderno e allegro. Quindi via di stoffine, pois, righine e compagnia bella ;)

I used the same pattern for both of them, a nativity taken from the Art to Heart book "Star of wonder", partially modified by me adding the cow and the sheep (from another old booklet from art to heart). But, instead of using the usual patchwork/applique fabric I preferred to use my kind of fabric, in my style, so a lot of modern stripes, polka dots, checks etc.

Una sul rosa e una sull'azzurro. Colori non tipicamente natalizi ma che mi hanno ispirato per questi lavori.

Cookies factory... and a very happy new year!

Eccomi di ritorno... con un bel carico di biscotti (e relative ricette, specie dopo aver avuto, giustamente, diverse richieste in tal senso), di chiacchere (oggi post lungo per compensare l'assenza ma dalla prossima volta mi ridimensiono!) e di auguri, da ricambiare a tutte voi che siete state cosí carine da riempirmi letteralmente di commenti di auguri e dolci messaggi durante questa mia lunga assenza!

Finalmente sono tornata online. Un pó di disintossicazione da internet fa solo bene ma il blog mi mancava tantissimo. Questa pausa é stata imprevista, ho dovuto prendermi del tempo per me perché l'umore non era (e non é tuttora) dei migliori. Sapete che nel mio blog parlo SOLO ed ESCLUSIVAMENTE di cose belle (mia scelta personale, discutibile quanto volete, ma cosí é....) perché per me dev'essere solo un luogo di svago, serenitá e ispirazione. Ma non posso nemmeno fingere palesemente di aver trascorso delle feste natalizie favolose.. purtroppo a causa di problemi familiari gravi e di lunga data, non é stato proprio per niente cosí, ma non mi piace assolutamente parlarne (nemmeno con le amiche piú strette). Capitolo chiuso. Voglio invece ricordare che per fortuna ci sono stati anche tanti momenti meravigliosi, quelli degli incontri con le mie amiche di sempre che per me sono LINFA VITALE. Ci sono state giornate di sole nei colli che tanto amo, mangiate in compagnia, scambi di regali piccoli e grandi e tutti meravigliosi, sorrisi, scemenze e risate.

Ho tante di quelle cose da mostrarvi che non so nemmeno da dove iniziare.... ma ora che, dopo un periodo intenso e stremante, dopo giornate trascorse praticamente in macchina come trottole nel traffico italiano stile jungla (dove vince il piú veloce, quello con il macchinone, il piú prepotente, quello che ti fa i fari, il piú maleducato e arrogante: aiuto! ma dove stiamo finendo?!) a cui non sono piú abituata, sono tornata alla mia routine, alla tranquillitá e anche alla solitudine, osservando dalla finestra un pettirosso che spilucca nella mangiatoia mentre qualche raggio di sole bacia il giardino dopo una mattina di vento e tempesta, pian piano riprendo i miei ritmi....

Here I am, finally back... with a full load of cookies and wishes for all of you, to thank you for the many many many comments and sweet words you left me during this festive period!

I am finally back online. A little bit of detox from the internet is never too bad, but I was missing the blog a lot. Honestly this break was a bit unexpected. I needed to take some time for me, also because my mood was not (and still isn't) the best ever. You know that in my blog I ONLY talk about happy things (it's my choice, of course disputable, but it is my choice and that's it) because to me it has to be a happy place to enjoy, where to find inspiration and peace. But I can't even be completely fake and tell you that the festive period spent in Italy has been great because it hasn't, at all, due to (big and long lasting) problems in my family which I don't like to talk about at all.

Luckily though there have been also lovely times, like the times I met my friends of a lifetime... those are the most important moments to me. And then sunny days in the hills that I love, dinners out in good company, lovely gifts exchanges, and smiles and silly moments, and laughters.

I have so many things I want to show you that I don't even know where to start from! ...but now that the hectic period has gone, after days in Italy spent in the car (going from a relative to another, from a friend to another) in the wild jungle that unfortunately is italian traffic (which I am not used to anymore), now, that I am back to the quiet life we have here, between tranquillity and solitude, looking out of the window at a robin nibbling in the bird feed table, while some sun rays kiss the garden, after a morning of strong winds and storms, now I slowly try to go back to my usual life...

Iniziamo dai biscotti. Per addolcire questo inizio d'anno (io ne ho davvero bisogno!).

Come vi ho accennato, anche quest'anno ho preparato biscottini a volontá da regalare a tutte le persone che ho visitato durante le feste.

Ne sono stati tutti soddisfatti e siccome non sono assolutamente una maga in cucina (anzi!!!!!!!!) sono doppiamente contenta di come mi sono riusciti!

Oggi ve li mostro nel dettaglio, ma soprattutto, come sempre, vi giro le ricette che ho usato per condividere con voi questi piccoli successi ;)

Iniziamo dai Kipferl al cioccolato. Biscottini tipici viennesi (cosí ho letto...) con la tipica forma a ferro di cavallo. La ricetta per farli l'ho trovata qui. Uniche variazioni: per le mandorle, a differenza della ricetta, io ho usato la farina di mandorle giá pronta e per il cioccolato da mescolare alla massa, ho usato quello al latte invece che quello fondente.

Let's start from the cookies. To sweeten this new year that is starting (I really need to)

As I told you, I baked many of them to give to the people I visited during the italian period.

The recipients have been happy about them and so am I, especially because I am not such a very good cook (at all) so the satisfaction is ever bigger!

Today I'll show them to you in detail, also sharing the recipes (italian only, sorry) that I used to bake them.

Let's start from the chocolate Kipferl. Typical biscuits from Vienna (Austria) shaped as a horsehoe. I found the recipe here. The only variations I applied are these: I used ready made almonds flour instead of grinding almonds, and I used milk chocolate instead of dark one, for the inside of the biscuits.

Usando la stessa ricetta (ma SENZA aggiungere il cioccolato a scaglie) ho fatto anche molti Kipferl semplici, alla vaniglia. Li ho spolverizzati con lo zucchero vanigliato e sono venuti anche loro una delizia.

I used the same recipe (but without adding the chocolate inside) to make some simple vanilla Kipferl, which I then decorated with vanilla icing sugar.

Mi sono poi cimentata nei miei preferiti, i biscottini semplici al burro con la marmellata!

Ho usato questa ricetta e li ho farciti con marmellata di fragole e di albicocche.

Then I tried my favourites, the simple biscuits with jam inside!

I used this recipe and I filled them with strawberry and apricot jams.

Per la prima volta nella mia vita ho poi voluto sperimentare con la pasta di zucchero... niente a che vedere con le creazioni di Giuliana o Michela (per nominarle solo alcune tra le mie preferite...) ma nel mio piccolo mi sono divertita :)

Ho usato la stessa ricetta dei biscotti con la marmellata sopra (quindi questa) e ho comprato la pasta di zucchero giá pronta da stendere, sia bianca che rossa. Per legare la copertura al biscotto ho usato un pochino di marmellata come era suggerito nella confezione della pasta di zucchero.

For the first time in my life then, I made an experiment with sugar paste.... nothing even comparable to the beautiful creations of Giuliana and Michela (just to name a few among my italian favourite cookie makers) but I enjoyed myself a lot ;)

I used the same recipe as above for the biscuits, and then I added the ready made sugar paste in red and white. To attach the decoration to the biscuit I used some jam, as it was suggested in the sugar paste instructions.

E infine, sempre con la stessa ricetta per i biscottini semplici al burro, ho creato un pó di cuoricini e un pó di biscotti con filamenti di cioccolata (ok lasciamo perdere la loro irregolaritá... non sono proprio una pasticcera nata :P)

And finally, always with the same recipe above, for the simple biscuits, I created some hearts with icing wugar on top and some others with chocolate decorations (don't look at the chocolate stripes, they are horrible, cos I am not very good at it at all :P)

Inscatolati in mille e piu contenitori di plastica, messi in valigia (assieme a un piccolo necessarie con elementi di decoro basilari, come nastri, pinzatrice, carta kraft ecc.ecc.) e poi assemblati in loco, in parte con sacchettini di cellophane e in parte con barattolini di ikea. E voilá!

I stored all of them in many plastic boxes, I put them in the baggage (togheter with just a few necessary things for packing them) and then I assembled the packaging in Italy, before giving them to the recipients, some with the cellophane bags and others with the Ikea glass jars. And here they are!

Elves at work

Un salutino di corsa! Post programmato perché oggi son in volo per l'Italia dove trascorreró qualche giorno...

Anche per quest'anno per fortuna gli elfi han fatto il loro dovere. Giornate passate alla macchina da cucire, ansia da prestazione, idee scarseggianti, idee bellissime nella testa ma che si trasformano in ciofeche una volta cucite, cose da fare, disfare e rifare, soddisfazioni e delusioni, un pomeriggio intero per impacchettare, come al solito dico "questo é l'ultimo anno che faccio regali handmade" e poi l'anno prossimo mi ritroveró punto e da capo.... Ma quanto é bello vederli, anche se per poco, tutti li' sotto l'albero, sapendo che c'é un pezzetto del mio cuore e del mio tempo in moltissimi di loro!

A really quick hello! This post is programmed because today I am flying back to Italy for a few days...

This year the elves did their job as usual. Days spent on the sewing machine, with not many new ideas, some beautiful ideas in the mind that then become quite ugly once on the fabric, things to make, to unravel, to sew up again, satisfactions and disappointments, a whole afternoon spent wrapping up, so as usual I say " this is the last year I handmade all gifts", and then, I already know, that next year I will be in the same situation again.... But it's so nice to see them, even if just for a short time, under the tree, knowing that there is a bit of my heart and of my time in most of them!

E siccome sono masochista, e non mi basta lavorare in craft room, mi sono dedicata anche ad una nottata (fino alle 2.30 di notte... no comment) di biscottamento! Qui sono ancora in fase di asciugatura/decorazione... vedremo cosa mi inventeró per impacchettarli... non ho molta fantasia quest'anno e non posso portarmi in Italia la craft room con tutti i miei materiali... per cui faró qualcosa di molto semplice ma spero carino ;)

And because I am a masochist, working in the craft room, is not enough so I devoted one night to make cookies (finished at 2.30 am, no comment, I know!)! Here they are still in the drying/decoration stage.... we'll see how I will wrap them up... I don' have many ideas this year and I obviously can't take my craft room with all my materials away with me... so probably I'll make something very simple but hopefully cute ;)

Oggi mi ritaglio qualche momento nella frenesia (a tratti assurda! ma chissá perché ogni anno, un pó come tutte voi scommetto, ci ricasco :(((...) di questi giorni, per mostrarvi, come promesso, le evoluzioni del nostro salotto in progress. Aprofittando dell'atmosfera natalizia che lo colora e gli regala una bellissima atmosfera, ve lo mostro "quasi" al completo.

Inanzitutto ultimi piccoli e grandi acquisti...

Come una bella brocca presa ai mercatini natalizi di Bath e due lanterne abbinate prese in un adorabile negozietto di Cirencester. Bath e Cirencester sono i luoghi che piú amo dove girare e fare un pó di shopping nei dintorni!

Today I take a quick moment during this extremely hectic period (every year I repeat to myself, like a mantra, that I don't have to find myself in this situation, but apparently it's impossible to avoid) to show you, as promised, some evolutions from our living room in progress. I take advantage of the Christmas atmosphere that is giving a lot of colour to it, to show it to you.

Let's start with some small and big purchases...

Like this cute jug bought at the Bath Christmas Markets and these nordic style lanterns bought in a pretty shop in Cirencester. Bath and Cirencester are probably the places I love most to have a shopping spree around me.

E naturalmente il fantomatico mobile per la tv, che ho disegnato e fatto fare da una felegnameria locale. Non é niente di particolare, molto semplice e abbinato alle librerie (fatte fare dalla stessa falegnameria) ma é esattamente quello di cui avevamo bisogno. Come vedete é tutto bianco con il top in rovere.

L'effetto che fa nell'insieme é davvero luminoso e arioso. Il mobile di prima (vedi qui) era decisamente troppo scuro e ingombrante!

E' arrivata anche la famosa mensola da mettere sopra la stufa (aproposito, grazie per tutte le opinioni e preferenze su quell'argomento, anche quelle che non erano entusiaste dell'idea: é ovvio che non tutte abbiamo gli stessi gusti e che ognuna ha la sua opinione, altrimenti avremmo tutte la casa uguale O_O!!!) e appena avremo la possibilitá la faremo montare.

And the tv cabinet, that, as you already know, I designed and had custom made from a local carpenter shop. It's nothing special, just very simple and matching the two bookshelves (that the same carpenter factory made) but it's exactly what we needed. As you see, it's all white, with the top in oak.

The effect it gives to the lounge is very light and airy. The cabinet we had before (see here) was definitely too dark and big for the room!

The shelf to put on top of the stove has also arrived (thank you for all your opinions!!!) and we will hang it as soon as possible.

Abbiamo anche preso e montato le fodere Svanby beige per i nostri divani Ektorp per dare il cambio a quelle con le rose (idealmente mi piacerebbe intercambiarle due volte all'anno). Mi piacciono moltissimo. Il colore é molto tenue e naturale e la superficie é rustica, come del lino grezzo per intendersi. Vi mostro solo un angolino, perché ho in mente di fare molti cuscini colorati (appena ne avró il tempo, ovvero in gennaio) per dare luce e allegria alla stanza... appena pronti vi mostreró l'effetto finale.

We also bought and fitted the new Ektorp sofa cover in Svanby beige, it's a natural very soft colour and the texture is rustic and rough. I really like them, and the idea is to change them with the vintage roses ones a couple of times a year. I only show you a little corner because I have plans to make a lot of coloured cushions (when I'll have time, so probably in january) to give light, colour and happiness to the room... I will show you the final effect in due time.

E l'albero, il vero protagonista in questo periodo. Ok, lo avete giá visto con le luci soffuse della sera, ma qui con la luce del mattino fa tutto un altro effetto. Piu allegro e vivace a mio parere!

And the tree, the real protagonist of the room at this time of the year. Ok, you already saw it with the dimmed light of the night, but here you can see it with the morning light in a sunny day. It has a whole different effect, more happy and lively in my opinion!

Anche l'angelo (pattern tratto dal libro Tilda's winter ideas) con la luce del giorno e le bandierine di sottofondo regala colore e allegria!

And in the daylight, also the angel (pattern from the book Tilda's winter ideas), with the bunting in the background, gives colour and cheerfulness!

Ecco la zona natalizia al completo con albero, caminetto, bunting, corona con rennina e lanterne! Mancano solo i regali sotto l'albero che al momento sono tutti accumulati in craft room in attesa di essere impacchettati (rigorosamente all'ultimo minuto) e messi in valigia! (ovviamente alcuni son ancora in lavorazione.... !!!! ahhrgg)

Here it is, the Christmas corner ready and complete, with the tree, the stove, the bunting, the wreath and the lanterns! Only the gifts under the tree are still missing, and that is because they are all accumulated in the craft room ready to be wrapped (usually at the very last minute) and fitted inside the baggage to fly to Italy! (obviously some are still in progress....!!! ahhhrggg)

E infine il nostro salottino al gran completo... o quasi!

I prossimi step saranno: i cuscini per i due divani (di varie forme, colori e dimensioni), la mensola sopra la stufa da appendere, e poi pensare finalmente a qualcosa per le pareti (foto, quadri, decorazioni ecc.) e una sistemata alle cose nelle librerie, sempre restando nel mio stile semplice e country moderno.

And finally here is the living room complete... or almost complete!

The next steps will be: making some cushions for the two sofas (various shapes, size and colours), hanging the shelf over the stove, thinking about the walls decorations (pictures, photos, decorations etc.) and sorting out the stuff on the bookshelves, always trying to keep my simple modern country style.

Ok, torno di corsa in craft room, e penso ne usciró giusto un attimo prima di prendere il volo O_O!!! ci risentiamo al piú presto nel blog e per gli auguri (ma come giá detto, torneró operativa con mail e risposte varie, dopo il Natale o piú facilmente a gennaio, portate pazienza, ma tanto so che siete tutte impegnate piú o meno come me!)

Christmas touches (part 2)

Al volo sul serio perché, come giá detto nello scorso post, non ho proprio tempo per respirare in questi giorni... vi mostro solo questo piccolo dettaglio del nostro salotto vestito per il Natale e "rullo-di-tamburi" ormai quasi completo dal punto di vista mobili!

Eh si.. la intravedete li' dietro la tv con sotto un mobile nuovo di zecca a sostituire finalmente l'altro, troppo grande e troppo scuro? (pian piano vi mostreró tutto bene!)

Today I'll be really wuick because I don't even have time to breathe during these days.... so I'll show you this little detail from our living room that is dressed for Christmas and that is almost fnished! Oh yes! Can you see, behind there, under the tv, a brand new cabinet to replace the old one that was too dark and too big for our room? (I promise I will show you more, as soon as I will be able too!)

And on the coffee table a tomato sauce jar recycled in a Christmas way... with a berries branch (stolen from the entrance door wreath) and a cute gingham ribbon and bow.

Christmas touches (part 1)

Ancora una corona... a mio parere non sono mai troppe in casa. Adoro il loro fascino rustico e la loro versatilitá. Possono cambiare mille facce, mille forme, mille stili. Questa per esempio é stata fatta letteralmente al volo per riempire il "buco" di parete tra la stufa in salotto e la porta sulla destra.

And today, another wreath... in my opinion you can never have too many wreath at home. I love their rustic feel and their versatility. They can easily change style, shape and effect. I made this one very quickly to fill an empty space between the fire stove and the door on the right, in the living room.

Qualche settimana fa ho avuto la fortuna di riuscire a visitare la fiera natalizia "Country Living" di Londra. E' stata la prima volta per me e devo dire che mi é piaciuta parecchio! Ho fatto piccoli acquisti qua e la' tra cui questa rennina intagliata di legno... (certo potrei intagliarmela anch'io... a parte il cuore centrale, si intende, ma vuoi mettere la comoditá di trovarla giá fatta!!!) e quando l'ho presa ho pensato: prima o poi di sicuro mi torna utile :)

Some weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Christmas "Country living" fair in London. It was my first time and I quite liked it. I did a bit of shopping of course, and among the rest I also found this little wooden reindeer... when I bought it I thought: sooner or later I will use it :)

E cosí é stato! Ho aggiunto qualche fiocco nei colori natalizi per eccellenza, e dopo un pó di prove varie ed eventuali di posizionamento, l'ho terminata... e il risultato é in bella mostra, si abbina perfettamente allo stile dell'albero e mi piace davvero tanto!

And that happened soon enough! I added some simple red and white dots, and after a few tries and decisions about the layout I finally completed it... the result is on display in the living room, I quite like it and it perfectly matches the christmas tree style!

A presto con gli ultimi tocchi natalizi in casa..... portate pazienza ma penso non riusciró a rispondere a commenti e mail (almeno che non siano urgentissimi) fino a dopo Natale, perché sono completamente presa per sperare di finire in tempo per mercoledí prossimo tutte le cose e i regalini che ho da fare (sono davvero troppi e poi in questi giorni non me ne va dritta una, sapete quei periodi NO in cui ogni cosa che create vi esce male? ecco, io continuo a fare e disfare, fare e disfare e non concludo nulla :( e il tempo passa... aiutoooo!)

Un altro anno, un altro Natale, un'altra corona per la porta d'ingresso...

Per chi di voi ricorda quella dello scorso anno (vedi qui), noterá che questa non é poi molto diversa. Ultimamente tendo ad amare sempre piú le cose semplici, senza troppi fronzoli e non troppo abbellite/decorate, ecco il perché di una semplicissima corona di bacche, questa volta finte (ma direi che non si vede perché mi sembrano parecchio realistiche) e solo un fiocco a pois per renderla piú festosa e festiva.

Another year, another Christmas, another wreath for the door...

Maybe some of you will remember the wreath I made last year (here) and will notice that is not much different from this one. Lately I am more and more into the simplicity in the design and materials, so that's why, also this year I chose a very simple berries wreath, the only differences being that the berries this year are fake (but very very realistic, in my opinion) and that I added a big polka dots bow to give that festive look.

E cosí l'ingresso della casa é passato dal look autunnale (lo ricordate? qui) a quello invernale/natalizio! Mancherebbero solo le lucine qua e lá intorno alla casa.. quasi tutti i vicini le hanno ma noi siamo ancora troppo pigri per capire come metterle, come attaccarle, come e dove far passare il filo... ecc.

And so the front of the house went fron the autumn look (do you remember? here) to the winter/christmas look!

Actually to have a proper Christmas look we still miss the outdoor lights that almost all our neighbours have. But we are way too lazy to try to understand how to make it work: how and where to hang, how and where to plug them etc....

Per cui per quest'anno mi accontento di questo piccolo ma significativo simbolo di festa e di benvenuto per chi entra. Gli anni prossimi si vedrá se ci avventureremo nel mondo delle lucine da esterni :)

So for now, and for this year, I am quite happy with this little but very meaningful sign of celebration and of welcoming. In the next years we will see ;)

Son ancora al lavoro... altre corone per la casa, altre piccole cosine da mostrarvi al piú presto!

I am still at work.... other wreaths and little decorations are on their way to be shown!
And the new living room furniture are on their way to be photographed too :)

Plus, the laboratory aka craft room is very busy with Santa elves working for me (I wish!).

Oh yeah, Christmas is right behind the corner, I am leaving for Italy on the 22nd and I am very late with everything (and also very anxious about it, like every year o_O!!!) so forgive me if I don't answer to the mails during this period...

Eccolo! Finalmente posso mostrarvi qualche scorcio del Natale in casa nostra!

Premetto che anno dopo anno, sará l'etá, sará la solutidine di emigrata, sará che le famiglie non sono piú unite come un tempo e che ci sono tanti problemi che prima non c'erano, sará che crescendo tutto cambia, ma il Natale lo sento sempre sempre sempre meno... E' forse proprio per questo che cerco comunque di addobbare la casa almeno un minimo, e ascolto musiche natalizie, e mi sforzo di ritrovare quello spirito ormai rimasto a quando ero bimba e ai tanti bei ricordi ormai lontanissimi....

Quest'anno come vi dicevo ho scelto i colori piú simbolici del Natale: il bianco e il rosso. E qui sotto ecco il nostro albero!

Here we are! Finally I can show you some sneak peeks of the Christmas atmosphere in our home!

First of all I have to say that unfortunately, maybe because of the age, maybe because of the fact of living abroad far from our friends and family, maybe because growing up everything changes and there are new problems, families ruptures etc, but lately I have been feeling less and less and less the christmas mood, every year always less.... And that is probably why, despite of that, I am trying to decorate the house a anyway... to try to find the Christmas feel lost in my lovely childhood years....

So this year, as I was telling you, I chose the ever classic nordic red and white.

Here it is our tree in the living room!

Lo abbiamo preparato domenica pomeriggio, con il caminetto acceso, la luce soffusa, cd natalizi di sottofondo..... Tra aghi di pino e cuori di legno, tra orsetti imbottiti e lucine ci siamo rilassati e goduti a pieno questo momento cosí magico.

We dressed it up last sunday, with the stove on, the light dimmed, some Christmas music on the air..... among pine needles and wooden hearts, among stuffed little bears and little lights, we relaxed a lot and we enjoyed that magical moment.

Molti addobbi sono handmade, altri comprati. Ho riciclato alcune cose dagli anni scorsi. Quest'anno di nuovo ho creato le mini bamboline angeli in versione piccola come addobbo e grande come topper. Il pattern l'ho trovato sull'ultimo booklet di tilda: Tilda's winter ideas. Non é un vero e proprio libro, ma piu un libricino, pur sempre pieno di zeppo di belle atmosfere e qualche delizioso progetto.

Many ornaments are handmade, others are bought. I recycled some from last years. This year I created the little tilda angels and the big tilda angel tree topper. The pattern is from the last Tilda booklet: "Tilda's winter ideas". It's not a proper book, more like a sweet little booklet, full of lovely nordic atmospheres and some beautiful projects.

Mug cake mania!

Se c'é una cosa che amo sono quei pomeriggi tra ragazze (posso ancora chiamarmi ragazza anche se ho 34 anni suonati da qualche gg?! mah!) di chiacchere, magari craft, risate, scemate, the' caldo, biscotti e complicitá. Qui in UK le mie amiche storiche e meno storiche mi mancano come l'aria. Forse sono la cosa che piú mi manca in assoluto. Ma ho la fortuna di aver trovato una ragazza, Joana, con cui ho sintonia pressoché perfetta qui... e cosí la sua presenza mi aiuta a pensare un pó meno alle mie amiche lontane...

Abitiamo vicine, l'ho contagiata con la creativitá e cosí qualche pomeriggio lo passa a casa mia a lavorare con me. In questi pomeriggi di craft e chiacchere cerchiamo di non farci mai mancare un momento dolce e possibilmente ipercalorico :)

La settimana scorsa, dopo tanto che ne parlavamo, abbiamo deciso di provare le simpaticissime Mug Cakes (torta in tazza in italiano), di cui lei mi aveva parlato.

If there is something I truly love, that's the afternoons spent with my girlfriends chatting, maybe crafting, laughing, being silly, drinking tea and eating cookies. Here in the UK I miss my lovely italian girlfriends so so much, they are probably the thing I miss MOST here. But, I am lucky enough to have met Joana here, a girl that shares many passions with me and that I feel in complete tune with. She makes me feel less "girlfriend sick"!

We live quite close and, because I passed my love for creativity to her, she spends some afternoons at my place working with me. In these afternoons among chatting and sewing we always try to find a sweet moment for something yummy and usually hypercaloric ;)

Last week, after a lot of chatting about it, we tried the funny Mug Cakes, that she had talked to me about in the past.

Non aspettatevi per favore "alta pasticceria viennese"!!! si tratta di tortini veloci, abbastanza buoni ma niente di sublime!!! piu' che altro sono divertenti e velocissimi da fare. Uno sfizio insomma ;) nulla di piú!

Abbiamo deciso di farne due, con le due ricette che la mia amica aveva con se. Una al cioccolata e l'altra all'arancia.

Preparati tutti gli ingredienti....... (che in genere si hanno sempre a casa..)

Please don't expect "delicious austrian or french patisserie"!!!! They are just quick little cakes, surely good enough to eat but nothing sublime!!! their highlight is being so quick and funny to make. Just a little whim ;)

We decided to make two of them, with the recipes joana had. One with chocolate and the other one with orange.

We prepared all the ingredients ........ (that usually you should have at home)

We mixed everything carefully...

Messo 3 minuti in microonde e ta-taaan! ecco le vostre minitortine giá pronte... okey, sono un pó bruttine viste cosí, ma un attimo di pazienza please!

We put each one in the microwave for 3 minutes and then ta-tadaaaaan! here are your mug cakes ready for you! Ok, they are not very beautiful, but be patient ;)

Ecco, un pó di panna montata e qualche topping a vostra scelta e diventano bellissime (o quasi, dai! non siate pignole!!!)

A little bit of decoration with whipped cream and some fancy toppings and here we are, much better!!!

Non vi resta che tagliarvene una fettina e gustarla ;)

ps: io ho usato il lievito vanigliato per microonde ma per puro caso (perché lo avevo comprato per sbaglio in italia e non sapevo se era il caso di usarlo anche in forno normale o no per le torte classiche), se volete potete usare quello anche voi ma sinceramente le ricettine che abbiamo trovato non sembrano prevedere lieviti "particolari"...... questo é tutto quel poco che so!

E' arrivato quel momento dell'anno, si é proprio arrivato! Dicembre con i suoi cieli azzurri (quanto li amo) e la sua aria gelida. Dicembre con le luci per le strade, le musiche natalizie nei negozi e naturalmente la voglia di decorare i propri nidi di colore e magiche atmosfere.

Ci siamo quasi... questo w.e. decoreremo un pó la casetta, per la prima volta dato che l'anno scorso a natale eravamo in mezzo alle macerie, alla polvere e ai lavori di casa.

Ok si parte......albero preso, scatoloni tirati fuori dal garage....

That time of the year has definitely come! December, with its light blue skies ( I love them so much) and its freezing air. December with its lights among the streets, the christmas songs in the shops and obviously the desire to decorate our nests with colour and magic atmospheres.

We are almost there... this w.e. we will decorate a little bit our house, for the first time, as last year at Christmas we were in the middle of debries and dust for the refurbishment of the house.

Ok let's go then.... the tree has been chosen and taken, the carboard boxes have been grabbed from the garage....

Many fabrics and ribbons and various materials in the nordic colours of red and white (which I chose for this year decorations) have been selected among my stock to make some new ornaments and decorations....

Addobbi degli anni scorsi nei colori adatti: recuperati ed eventualmente leggermente modificati.

Addobbi nuovi: iniziati a creare (e comprati in qualche caso).... oggi tour de force perché tutto dev'essere pronto per domani... ce la faró?! tra addobbi, puntale (mi piacerebbe un angelo tilda mignon....), bunting, corone... mmmmh dubito! ma faró del mio meglio!!!

The old ornaments in the right colours (red and white) have been selected or in some case slightly modified.

The new ornaments have been started to be created (and in some cases bought)..... today full immersion in Christmas crafting as I would like to have everything ready for tomorrow.... Will I be able to?! Among ornaments, decorations, tree topper (I'd like a tiny tilda angel), bunting, wreath.... mmmmmh I doubt it!!! But I'll try my best!!!

Musica natalizia al pc a ciclo continuo per poter ottenere lo spirito natalizio massimo possibile e via a cucire... oggi non ci sono per nessuno ;)

"Building" a living room...

Oggi vi racconto come nasce un salotto... "dopo un anno che abitate in casa nuova?!?!" direte voi... eh si, ma meglio tardi che mai no?!

Vi ricordate, quando vi ho raccontato del nostro salotto qui , vi ho detto anche che nella parete che rimaneva libera, avremmo voluto mettere un piccolo caminetto/stufa tradizionale elettrica (non c'é la canna fumaria, se é quello che vi chiedete).

Era presente un camino quando abbiamo comprato casa, ma era a gas (io odio il gas e mi fa paura), bruttino, enorme, e posizionato nel punto sbagliato. Per cui finalmente abbiamo deciso di prendere questo fantomatico caminetto elettrico!

La prima decisione da prendere é stata sul tipo, come vedete qui sotto, potevamo scegliere il classico fireplace e surround (elettrico), o la versione piú rustica, ovvero la stove (stufa), con tubo (finto) o meno.

Today I will tell you how our living room has developed and is still developing. ... after a year since we moved into the house O_O I know!!! But better late than never!

Do you remember, that here I showed you the living room wip and I told you that in the spare wall we wanted to put an electric fireplace/stove (there is not a chimney there if you are wondering about it).

When we bought the house there was the usual fireplace you find in modern houses, so it was gas (which I hate, cos I am scared by gas), it was old, huge and not very nice, and in the wrong position as well... So finally we decided to buy a new electric fireplace!

The first decision to tackle was what kind of fireplace we wanted, we could chose between the classic fire and surrounds (electric), the more rustic stove with or without the (fake) pipe above.

I enjoyed myself with photoshop for a while, trying to visualize the final effect of all these solutions....

Dopo pensieri, misurazioni e ragionamenti, abbiamo deciso di andare per la stove (stufa), il nostro primo amore.. e l'idea con cui eravamo partiti all'inizio. Tra gli altri motivi anche per un discorso pratico di mobilitá e adattabilitá a ogni zona. Con il caminetto grande classico avremmo dovuto tagliare il battiscopa e fissarlo al muro ecc.ecc. Questa stufa invece é movibile e altamente adattabile.

And eventually, after lots and lots of thoughts we decided to chose the traditional stove, that was our fist love.... and the idea we had at the beginning. Among many reasons, we chose the stove because it's more easy to locate it and relocate it. The big standard fireplace instead would have obliged us to cut through the skirting board and make the installation permanent.

Ovviamente non é completa, e siccome mi piace sempre mostrarvi i miei work in progress, vi mostro la nostra prossima decisione (finiranno mai le scelte da fare?!), ovvero la mensola da mettere sopra al caminetto. Questi sono i generi che ci piacciono, dovremmo decidere quale tipo e dove acquistarla e/o se farcela fare su misura.....

Obviously the area is not complete, and because I love to show you my work in progress, here is the next decision we have to tackle (will choices and decisions ever end?!), that's the shelf to chose to put over the stove. These are the kinds we love, we will have to decide a genre and find out where to buy it or if having somebody to custom make it for us....

Oltre al discorso caminetto, come avete visto nella foto piú sopra, negli ultimi mesi abbiamo finalmente preso la tv con schermo piatto (troppo grande per i miei gusti ma pazienza) ma il mobile della tv é ancora lo stesso vecchio, enorme, scuro e sproporzionato :( sono passati mesi ma solo la settimana scorsa mi sono decisa a preparare un progetto/bozza di come vorrei il mobile. Dopo l'approvazione maritale siamo ora pronti ad andare a ordinarlo per farcelo fare su misura... a meno di ripensamenti dell'ultimo minuto ;)

Besides the fireplace, there is another thing to takle asap. As you can see in the picture above, in the last months we finally bought a new flat screen tv (too big for my tastes btw) but the tv stand is always the same old huge dark one :( It's been months but only last week I finally started to design a layout for the new one that we would like to have. After the husband approval we are now ready to go and order it custom made, unless we have some last minute change of mind ;)

E per finire (ma questo il maritozzo forse convenientemente non se lo ricorda ^_^... anche se ne abbiamo giá parlato qualche mese fa, eh vabbeh vorrá dire se lo ricorderá leggendo il blog hihihihi) vorrei anche comprare delle fodere di ricambio per il divano ektorp, cosí da alternare inverno ed estate. In estate lasciare la fodera con le rose vintage, e in inverno mettere questa fodera beige chiaro con tanti cuscini sul rosso e verde salvia, adatti alla stagione.

And finally (but probably hubby nicola conveniently forgot about this, even if we discussed this some months ago.... well, he will discover it reading the blog ^_^) I'd like to buy a new cover for our Ektorp sofas, to alternate fabric and colours in winter and summer. In summer I would leave our current cover, that's the vintage roses one, and in winter I'd like this light beige cover down here, filled with cushions in red and sage green maybe.

Quanti progetti!!! O_O

Ok meglio rilassarsi sul divano con un buon giornale e non pensarci per il momento, e lasciar passare magari un altro annetto........... ;)

Ok, I guess it's better to relax on the sofa with a good magazine for now, and leave all these projects for another year or so........ ;)

Al di la' di tutto: divano beige o a rose, mobile tv nuovo o vecchio, mensola di rovere o bianca, devo dire che l'atmosfera che crea questo caminetto é davvero magica e unica...... certo non é la stessa cosa che avere un vero camino grande e a legna, ma purtroppo per averlo dovremmo possedere un cottage di campagna o una casetta vittoriana (entrambi ahime' costosetti...) ma vi assicuro che la sera stare sul divano con la luce fioca e godere della magia e del calore che emana é uno spettacolo difficile da rendere in foto.

Beyond all these matters: beige or floral sofa, old or new tv cabinet, white or wooden shelf.. I have to say that the atmosphere that this stove gives is really magical and unique... obviously it's not like a proper real open fire, which I dream about day and night, but that only the unaffordable (for us) cottages and period houses have, but anyway I can assure you that relaxing at night on the sofa, with the dimmed light and the warmth and lovely atmosphere that this stove gives is really amazing, and difficult to show in a picture.

Ai prossimi aggiornamenti, magari con il salotto vestito da festa, non vedo l'ora ;)

Something green

Continua la carrellata di lavori passati, finché io son impegnata con gli ordini natalizi!

Oggi qualcosa di verde... i sottotazza di mio design con il cupcake come protagonista! In questa occasione mi son divertita a crearli con le mie stoffine preferite (pois, righine ecc.), questa volta, su richiesta della destinataria, nelle tonalitá del verde e del beige.

Let's keep on with the display of some of my previous works, while I am busy with many christmas orders. Today something green... some cups mats that I designed some years ago with a cupcake as the main protagonist and that this time I made in my favourite fabrics (polka dots, stripes etc.) and in the colour scheme of green and beige.

Quando li ho finiti, e li ho voluti fotografare per la ragazza che me li aveva ordinati, mi son resa conto che stavano semplicemente d'incanto con le mie tazze da colazione :)

Oddio é stata dura lasciarli andare a quel punto :P

Ma anche stavolta ce l'ho fatta ^_^!

When I finished them and I took the pics for the girl who ordered them to me, I realized that they were perfect together with my breakfast cups :)

Ohhh it was hard to let them go at that point :P

But I made it!

Sono molto semplici ma anche carini... e possono essere una buona ideuzza regalo dell'ultimo minuto che potreste fare, magari abbinati a delle belle tazzone per gustare una cioccolata calda e qualche biscottino o dolcettino handmade, no?

They are very simple, but I think they are cute, and they can be a nice gift idea that you could craft and maybe give together with some nice mugs with matching colours and maybe some handmade cookies or cupcakes, don't you think?

Something grey and pink

Continua il mio periodo annuale di tour de force (almeno altre due settimane piene prima di poter respirare un pochino) e io continuo ad aprofittarne per mostrare piccole e dolci cosine rimaste dimenticate nei miei album nel pc sperando di darvi magari ideuzze per i vostri regali di natale handmade che starete iniziando a preparare.

Oggi una pochette che mi é stata commissionata molto tempo fa e a cui sono particolarmente affezionata, mi piacciono molto sia la forma, sia i colori, sia i materiali, sia l'effetto finale. Come si suol dire: "una ciambella riuscita con il buco"!

My super busy period is still going on (at list for another two full weeks) and I keep on taking advantage of this hectic time to show you some old creations that remained forgotten in the huge albums of my pc hoping to give you some ideas for christmas handmade gifts.

Today a pouch that was custom ordered a long time ago, that I particularly fancy. I love the shape, the colours, the materials and the final effect.

Il pattern di base é sempre quello, il mio preferito in assoluto e quello che piú uso, la Curvy Clutch di Keyka Lou (tral'altro, vi annuncio, se giá non lo sapete, che il mio amato sponsor e mia designer di accessori preferita, Keyka Lou, ha messo tutti i suoi pattern in saldo per questo periodo!!!) che io ho poi abbellito con una spilla, staccabile, con gingilli vari, bottoni, feltro, fiori e cuoricini!

La base della pouch é in tweed grigio e l'interno in una stoffina giapponese a pois rosa.

The pattern I used is always the same, my favourite one and the one I use most of all, the Curvy Clutch from Keyka Lou (I also take the occasion to tell you that my lovely sponsor and favourite accessories designer, Keyka Lou, is having a sale on all her patterns during this period!!!) and then I accessorized it with some felt, buttons, flowers, hearts etc!

The pouch is made from grey tweed and the lining from a lovely japanese polka dots pink fabric.

Something lavender

Questo periodo per me (e per molte di voi immagino) é il piú intenso di tutto l'anno. Lavoro non stop e tempo zero per qualsiasi cosa (aggiungici anche un pó di sana influenza e viaaaaa!). Ne aprofitto per dirvi che non riesco a visitare nessun blog, faccio fatica a rispondere alle mail e soprattutto che non ho piú la possibilitá di accettare altri ordini natalizi, dato che, visti i tempi postali da uk a italia (anche un mese abbondante in alcuni casi) e visto la quantitá di ordini da finire, le tempistiche non lo permettono piú purtroppo.
Quindi al volo recupero sempre dai miei album qualche creazione passata e oggi vi mostro qualcosa di lilla! Un colore che so essere la passione di moltissime di voi, compresa Sara, la destinataria di questa creazione.

Ecco il copriquadernone che ho creato per lei nei toni del lilla e del beige e con lo sfondo di lino grezzo chiaro!

This is the busiest time of the year for me (and for many of you as well, I am sure) so I am completely busy with christmas orders and I don't have any spare time to visit blogs, answer mails or doing anything outside the craft room. So again, I am here showing you something from my previous works..... today something lavender coloured! I understood that lavender is a colour that many of you, like sara, the recipient of this creation, quite love.

So today here it's this ring binder cover that I created for her in lavender and beige and with a light rustic linen as a background!

Something red and something blue

Con oggi inizia una piccolissima serie di post in cui vi mostreró qualche creazione passata che non avevo avuto tempo o occasione di pubblicare. Questo un pó per mancanza di cosine nuove da mostrare, e un pó perché sono in un periodo di grande lavoro (visto l'imminenza del natale) per cui nn ho tempo da dedicare a post piú interessanti o cose e progetti nuovi, purtroppo!

Iniziamo con questa pochette a pois rossi e lino grigio (modello Pleated Pouch di Keyka Lou) che ho abbinato, su richiesta, ad un portapassaporto (mio design) con un dolce uccellino. Non sono carinissimi assieme?

From today, I will start a quick series of posts in which I will show some previous crafts I didn't have time or occasion to publish. This is due to the fact that I don't have anything new to show and to the fact that I am in a very busy working period (due to the proximity to Christmas) so I don't have time to share any new thing or project unfortunately.

Let's start with this red polka dots and linen pouch (Keyka Lou Pleated Pouch pattern) that I matched, on request, to a passport holder (my design) with a cute bird. Aren't they super cute together?

E una pochette in un tessuto simil-lino beige grezzo e una stoffa a pois blue, sempre della serie che avevo fatto la scorsa estate, e sempre dallo stesso modello di Keyka Lou, ma questa volta in una bellissima tonalitá di french blue.

And another pouch in grey rustic linen-like fabric and blue spots fabric. It's always from the usual Keyka Lou pattern which I quite love, and I am also quite fond of this french blue colour scheme.

Shabby Home - Il canto del mare

Oggi vi voglio presentare l'ennesima meraviglia frutto dell'amore, della passione, del talento e del buon gusto della mia amica Francesca che ormai tutte conoscerete...

Si tratta del suo nuovo libro "Shabby Home - Il canto del mare". A mio parere (e per i miei gusti) forse il piú bello tra quelli che finora ha scritto. In particolare, come le ho giá detto quando l'ho ricevuto, adoro i colori che ha scelto, le stoffe, lo stile... uno stile molto simile a quello che amo anche io!

Non potevo resistere a creare qualcosa da questo bel libro.. lo intravedete qui sotto...

Today I want to introduce you the new book of my friend Francesca that most of you will nknow so far.. This book is clearly a labour of her love, passion, talent and good taste...

It's called "Shabby Home - The song of the sea" and in my opinione (and for my tastes) it' maybe the best one she wrote so far. I particularly loved the choice of fabric and colours, exactely matching my own tastes!

I couldn't resist making something from this lovely book, you can have a sneak peek down here...

Eccolo qui, un portaocchiali di stoffa! Un progetto semplicissimo e velocissimo e che mi ha fatto subito innamorare!!! Ho scelto delle stoffine giapponesi che mi sembravano perfette sui toni dell'azzurro e del marrone!

And here it is, a fabric specs holder! It's a very quick and simple project and I immediately fell in love with it!!! I chose some japanese fabric in the brown and light blue colours that seem perfect to me for this project!

Poi ho ovviamente giá adocchiato tra i vari progetti potenziali per il futuro anche un paio di stupende borse, dei pesciolini da appendere (per il bagno), dei gattoni in salopette, un galeone fenomenale e soprattutto i piccoli aerei che quel genio di Franci ha creato, ed é stata cosí gentile da regalarmene uno fatto proprio dalle sue manine. Guardate voi che delizia e che perfezione!!! Trovate il progetto nel libro e trovo che sia un'idea stupenda per un regalo ad un bambino o ancora piú belli appesi sopra la culla a gironzolare come suggerisce Franci nel suo libro!

Then I obviously already had my eyes on some other potential projects for the future, like some lovely tote bags, some little fish to hang (for the bathroom), some cat figures, and amazing fabric boat and most of all the lovely little aeroplanes that the genius mind of Francesca created. She was so sweet to send me one of them made directly from her hands. Look how sweet it is!!! You can find the project in the book and I think it would make a lovely gift for a baby boy, or could be even better making some of them hanging above a crib as Francesca suggests in her book!

En suite reveal!

Era ora!!! Mi son finalmente decisa a postare le foto del bagno in camera. Il cestone della biancheria, finito di pochi giorni fa, mi ha dato il via. Ho sistemato un paio di cose... e ho deciso di postare. Non é sicuramente definitivo (lo sará mai? dubito!) e mancano un paio di cose.. ma per il momento posso ritenerlo degno di essere fotografato :)

Le foto non son il massimo, l'autunno e il grigio non facilitano la luce nelle foto indoor, ma immaginatevelo dal vivo! Piu luminoso, gioioso e allegro che in questi ritratti!

Finally I decided to post some pics of our ensuite bathroom. The redecoration of the laundry basket gave me the occasion to finish a couple of things and to take some pics. It's not finished yet (will it ever be???) but for now I reckon it's worthy of being shown. I am sorry for the low quality of the pics, autumn and grey sky don't go well with indoor pics, but try to imagine it much lighter, brighter and happier, as I swear, it is in the reality!

Lo avevato visto ancora tutto spoglio, dopo la ristrutturazione. Ci abbiamo aggiunto il mobile ikea che avevamo dall'altra casa e che sembra nato per stare in quell'angolo (per fortuna! cosí abbiamo risparmiato!!!), uno specchio comprato per un pound (circa un euro) a un mercatino dell'usato qualche anno fa e finalmente ridipinto e messo in uso, il cestone della biancheria, qualche quadretto e qualche accessorio.

You saw it when it was still all empty, after the refurbishment. We added the Ikea cabinet (that we had in our previous house and luckily we' ve been able to use it again!) that seems to be born to be placed in that corner, a mirror bought for a pound in a flea market some years ago, and finally painted and used, the laundry basket, some pictures and some accessories.

Questo é il bagno che usiamo principalmente. Per cui deve contenere quasi tutte le nostre cose e devo dire che questo mobile ikea é davvero capiente e ci stanno un sacco di cose! (c'é anche da dire che le cose di nicola occupano poco spazio e che io non sono una patita di trucco e gioielli per cui nn ho grandi esigenze.. ma cmq secondo me é davvero un bel mobile)

Se ricordate, abbiamo eliminato la vetrinetta per far posto a una tendina (intercambiale al bisogno perché l'ho attaccata tramite velcro sul versante interno) in modo che tutte le nostre cianfrusaglie vengano ben nascoste! La piccola e dolce coroncina é invece un vecchio regalo della mia amica dalle mani d'oro, fiore!

This is the bathroom we use most. So it has to fit all our stuff and I have to say that the Ikea cabinet is really spacious and you can fit loads inside! (it's also to be said that Nicola doesn't have much stuff, and that I am not a jewellery/make up crazy, so I also don't have thousands of things, but still, I think it's really a good storage solution)

If you remember, we removed the glass front and we replaced it with a fabric panel I made (and that I can change if I want, because it's fixed on the inside by hook and loop tape) so that all our stuff is well hidden! The sweet little wreath is instead, an old gift from my talented friend Fiore!

Non mi piace il disordine in bagno, non mi piace vedere prodotti, confezioni, cose varie in giro.. per cui qui é tutto ben diposto, organizzato e nascosto all'interno: dal phon alla piastra, alle spazzole, agli accessori per i capelli, alla mia bigiotteria, ai profumi, ai vari prodotti per l'igiene e per il trucco....
All'esterno rimane giusto lo spazio e la possibilitá di mostrare qualcosa di carino!

I don't like messy bathrooms with the stuff like bottles, products, accessories, placed outside on display... so here everything is quite organized and hidden inside, from the haidryer, to the hair straightener, to the brushes, the jewellery, perfumes, toiletries and makeup stuff...
On the outside you have just the right space to show something pretty!

Il tema di questo bagno é abbastanza marinaro, ma non troppo, abitando in semi-campagna e non di certo sulla costa! Ma, un po' di barchette qua e lá, danno quel giusto colore e quella giusta allegria. I quadretti li avevo creati io alcuni anni fa (vedi questo post) e la barchetta di legno é uno dei souvenir acquistati nella nostra vacanza in Cornovaglia!

The bathroom theme is just a bit coastal, not too much because I live close to the countryside, and not to the sea! But some boats here and there give just the right amount of colour and cheerfulness. The two fabric pictures were made by me some years ago (see here) and the wood boat is a souvenir we got from our holiday in Cornwall!

I colori che abbiamo scelto per questo bagno sono il bianco, l'azzurro polvere, il beige e il marrone. In particolare l'azzurro polvere e il beige la fanno da padrone. Quei quadretti con quella deliziose stampe sono un altro ricordo della nostra vacanza cornish, mentre gli asciugamani a pois li ho acquistati diverso tempo fa da Marks and Spencer.

The main colours of this bathroom are white, french blue, beige and brown.

French blue and beige in particular are the predominant ones. Here you can see the two lovely framed prints, another souvenir from our cornish holiday, and the two polka dots towels, bought some months ago from Marks and Spencer.

Una piantina (finta, ma non ditelo a nessuno, sssshhhhh ^_^) da ikea e sempre da ikea due barattoloni in cui ho messo il cotone per struccarsi e i cotton fioc.

A lovely plant (it's fake, but don't tell anyone, sssshhhhhh ^_^) from Ikea, and again from Ikea, two glass jars that I filled with cotton pads and cotton buds.

E ultimi ma non per importanza, il vecchio cesto della biancheria che ho ridecorato recentemente (vedi qui) e il cestino dell'immondizia smaltato color panna, tanto per cambiare, di ikea ;)

And last, but not least, the old laundry basket, that I recently redecorated (see here) and the cream enamel bin, again from ikea :)

Colta da un raptus di pittura, qualche giorno fa, mi sono decisa finalmente a dare una "rimodernata" al vecchio e tristissimo cesto della biancheria del bagno in camera. "Triste" perché quel color midollino che poco ci azzeccava con il resto degi arredi! L'unica foto che ho del prima é solo questa :( Non si vede nel complesso ma si intravede il suo colore...

I had been hit by a painting-fit and so, a few days ago, I finally started to paint the old laundry basket we have in our en-suite bathroom that was quite sad in that willow colour that didn't match the rest of the room! The only picture I have of the "before" is this down here where you can see its colour..

Cosí armata di pennello, pazienza (terribile dipingere le ceste... terribile...) e il colore murale avanzato dai muri della camera (una sorta di color tortora) mi son data da fare! Ecco una foto del work in progress!

So I grabbed the paint brush, a lot of patience (painting baskets is really annoying!!!) and some leftover wall paint that we used in the bedroom, that is a beige/natural colour and I started to work! Here is a picture of the WIP!

Ed ora eccolo qui, in bella mostra in bagno, a dire il vero sembra piú bianco sporco che tortora ma non importa perché sta benissimo lo stesso e si sposa perfettamente con i colori e lo stile della stanza!

Eventually here it is, it doesn't look beige, but more like off white, but it doesn't matter, because it's really pretty and perfect with the rest of the room anyway!

Un altro lavoro della lunga lista finalmente spuntato :) e cosí spero di potervi mostrare presto il bagnetto nel suo completo.

Autumn at home - the wreath

Come anticipato, volevo usare le bacche di rosa canina raccolta un paio di settimane fa, per creare delle decorazioni autunnali per la casa (assolutamente NON per halloween!!! che sia chiaro ^_^)

Non sapevo bene come differenziare una corona di bacche (che potrebbe sembrare direttamente natalizia) da una corona autunnale. Cosí pensando e ripensando ho deciso di mischiare bacche, foglie di feltro e fiocchi di stoffa.

As I already told you, I wanted to use the canine rose berries I harvested some weeks ago, to make some autumn decorations for the house (absolutely NOT for halloween!!! Let's make things clear ^_^)

I didn't actually know how to make a berries wreath that didn't look like a christmas wreath, so eventually, after a lot of thought, I decided to go for a mix of real berries, felt leaves and little fabric bows.

Dopo varie prove di abbinamento é nata lei. Una corona rosso e arancione per festeggiare la stagione forse piú bella dell'anno, senz'altro la piú colorata e romantica...

After many tries and colours and materials matching experiments, there it was. A red and orange wreath to celebrate probably the best season of the year, or at least the more colourful and romantic....

L'ho messa sulla porta d'entrata, a fare compagnia alle 3 zucche che abbiamo comprato la settimana scorsa. Alla fine ho deciso di non intagliarle, ne' decorarle per Halloween, dato che come sapete dopo il mio "outing", é un festa che detesto :) Ma sono cosí belle che rimarranno lí fino a che non marciranno (speriamo il freddo le conservi) o fino a che sará il momento di sostituirle con le decorazioni natalizie.

I placed it on the entrance door, together with the 3 pumpkins we bought last week. At the end I decided not to carve them, as after my "outing" of two posts ago, you now know I hate halloween :) But they are so lovely like this that I think I will keep them there until they will start to rot, or until it will be time for christmas decorations to take over.

Nel frattempo, é incredibile quanto, una settimana o poco piú, con qualche intensa giornata di sole, possa fare sulle foglie dell'albero e della vite americana del nostro giardino davanti. Il rossore leggero di una settimana fa si é trasformato in rosso fuoco e io nn mi stanco mai di guardare tutto questo spettacolo.

In the meantime, it's amazing how much, just a week with some gorgeous sunny days, can do to the leaves of our tree and our virginia creeper in the front garden. Their colour has become even more stronger and, as you see, they are now a stunning fiery hot red. I can never have enough of this amazing natural show.

Vi ricordate che sono una lamentona sul fatto che qui non trovo le tante cose buone a cui sono stata abituata in quasi 30 anni di vita in Italia? Ok, é ora di passare all'azione!

Se per una pasta al sugo e un risotto, posso cavarmela tranquillamente da sola, per quanto riguarda le "pastine della domenica" la cosa mi spaventa un pó ma voglio provarci!

Le pastine di riso (che ho scoperto essere per lo piú venete, di origini veronesi) sono le mie pastine preferite, da quando mia nonna da piccola me le portava sempre a casa dal fornaio. La loro semplicitá é la cosa che piú mi conquista! Io non sono una tipa da dolci strani e pomposi.

E cosí qualche giorno fa mi sono messa d'impegno, e usando qualche ricetta trovata su internet (in particolare parte di questa) e, come sempre, rielaborate in base a come veniva man mano e un pó a occhio e istinto, sono nate le mie prime (e sicuramente non ultime) pastine di riso!

Do you remember that I am always complaining about the fact that here in the UK I can't some of the good italian things that I was used to eating for almost 30 years of my life? Ok, it's time for action!

If for a pasta or a risotto I can easily do them on my own, well, for the "sunday pastries" (typical italian/austrian/french patisserie that we often buy to celebrate sunday lunches in italy, or also in general as a treat) it's a bit more of a challenge, but I want to try!

The "pastine di riso" (rice tarts/pastries) have always been my favourite kind of pastries, since, when I was a little girl, my grandmother used to take them home from the bakery. Their simplicity is what I love most, I am not the type for strange and fancy cakes...

So, some days ago, I tried to make them, using and mixing (following my instinct) some recipes found in the internet, particularly part of this) and they came out really good!

La cucina é diventata un macello, per 12 misere pastine, ma devo dire che il risultato e la loro bontá compensano la fatica. Anche se, ammetto che uscire e comprarne qualcuna per pochi euro sarebbe stato altrettanto soddisfacente, ma chiaramente qui non si puó ;)

At the end the kitchen was a mess.. just for making only 12 pastries, but I have to say that the result compensated the effort. Well, actually, if I was able to go out and grab some of them for a few euros from a shop it would have been very satisfacting as well, but obviously here I can't ;)

Vi lascio ovviamente la ricetta, ricordando che non sono cuoca, non sono pasticcera e nemmeno particolarmente appassionata di cucina.. per cui non so dare consigli ma solo condividere le mie piccole "esperienze" :)

Autumn at home

L'autunno é ufficialmente arrivato. Con i suoi colori, le sue temperature (che amo), la sua atmosfera.

A casa nostra, o meglio, nel nostro giardino é bello vedere i colori che si scaldano.

Il nostro piccolo alberello, proprio al centro del giardinetto davanti, si sta colorando di mille tinte. E' difficile rendere in foto, ma é cosí bello quando al pomeriggio é baciato dal sole e riflette luce e calore.

Autumn has officially arrived. With its colours, temperatures (that I love), its atmosphere.

At our place, or better, in our garden, you can see that the colours are starting to warm up.

Our little tree, in the front garden, is getting many coloured shades. It's difficult to rend in a picture the beauty of it, when in the afternoon is kissed by the sun.

Anche la vite americana (grazie alle mie lettrici per avermi illuminato su questa pianta di cui non ero sicura sul nome!!!) del muretto di destra, quello confinante con il giardino dei vicini, sta benissimo e si sta tingendo di rosso giorno dopo giorno. Quando ci siamo trasferiti era stata tagliuzzata in malo modo e cresceva come un grande ammasso verso l'erba anziché in verticale. L'ho recuperata, potata e le ho creato una ragnatela di fil di ferro per potersi arrampicare. Ora sta benissimo ed é davvero rigogliosa!

Also the virginia creeper (thanks to my reader that told me its name!) on the right side wall, at the edge with our neighbours garden, is feeling very well and its getting lovely shades of red day after day. When we moved here it had just been cut down in a bad way and it started to grow like a big messy bush towards the grass instead of up to the wall. So I tried to save her, I pruned it, I created a web on the wall where it finally started to grow uphill and now it is definitely quite vigourous!

Qualche tempo fa ho piantato anche una Pyracantha che mi sta regalando il primo mazzetto di splendide bacche rosse. Spero cresca in fretta e diventi presto un bel cespuglio!

Some time ago I also planted a Pyracantha bush that at the moment is giving us the first beautiful red berries. I hope it will grow quickly and become a nice bush.

Here are the front garden autumn colours. The gold and yellow of the little tree and the fire red of the first berries.

E se non bastano le nostre piante, basta buttare uno sguardo ai giardini dei vicini per godere di tanti colori caldi e autunnali.

And if our plants are not enough, we can always have a peek at our neighbours gardens to enjoy other warm and autum colours.

E in casa che succede? ...devo dire che non sono assolutamente una fan di halloween (so che saró impopolare, ma diciamo pure che son famosa tra le mie amiche perché non sopporto questa festa, forse perché non capisco il senso di festeggiare zombie, mostri, fantasmi e streghe!!! ma so che sono l'unica..) ma non ho resistito e abbiamo comprato qualche zucchetta "decorativa" che fa tanto autunno!!!

Non so se avremo la pazienza di intagliarle per accogliere i bambini che di sicuro passeranno a chiedere "trick or treat" ..vedremo! Casomai le tengo cosí che son giá cosí belle di loro.

E come ogni anno, solito giro a bacche é stato fatto! Quest'anno ci siamo presi in anticipo e ho trovato la mia amata rosa canina che l'anno scorso, a novembre era giá sparita. Ora non mi resta altro che pensare a cosa fare di tutte queste deliziose cosine regalate dalla natura:)

And what's happening inside our house? ...first of all I have to say I am not a fan of Halloween at all (sorry, I know I will be quite unpopular ^_^ but I can't really get the sense of this celebration of zombies, monsters, ghosts and witches...! but I know, it's only me..) but I couldn't resist these lovely and decorative pumpkins that made me feel properly into the autumn atmosphere. I don't know if we will have the patience to carve them to welcome the kids who will come to ask "trick or treat" but I guess they are quite beautiful as they are anyway. We'll see!

And, as every year, we've been harvesting berries in the woods around our house... this year we've been quick enough to get my favourites, the canine rose ones. Now I only have to decide what to do with all these lovely things given by nature :)

Kitchen ...yes ...again!

Eccoci, appunto, come promesso nell'ultimo post.. perché mi son resa conto che stranamente, di immagini, diciamo, complete della cucina, dopo l'estensione e la ridecorazione non é che ne avevo fatte di decenti.. tutti spezzoni, qua e la.. ma ho pensato di mostrarvela tutta! Iniziando da uno scorcio... amo entrare nella stanza e vedere SEMPRE un bel vaso di fiori freschi. Ultimamente c'ho la fissa dei garofanini rossi, in attesa dell'inverno per i tulipani.

Here we are, as promised in my last post.... because I realized that, strangely, after the extension and redecoration I have never posted any complete picture of the kitchen... just bits and bobs.. so I thought it would be nice to show it as it is at the moment.

Let's start with a picture I quite like... the thing I love most is to enter the kitchen and be welcomed by my jug with fresh flowers! Lately I had been addicted to red carnations, waiting for winter and my beloved tulips.

Ed eccola qui, la mia stanza PREFERITA in assoluto! Il luogo che piú amo della casa... la nostra cucina panna-rossa-verde salvia-nera.. e tutte le sue cosine che adoro! Qui vista dalla porta del giardino.

Si.. le presine sono sempre le stesse adorabili che mi ha fatto la mia amica marty e gli strofinacci sempre i dolci e colorati da All Tea Towels! Da mesi devo fare un set mio, chissá se in questi giorni ci riusciró (..sto progettando!)

E un altro progetto che ho in mente da un pó é trovare una soluzione al portaspezie che cosí com'é non mi piace proprio. Lo trovo disordinato e scoordinato. Ho in mente di comprare dei vasetti semplici e vuoti da decorare con delle etichette handmade e forse dipingere il portaspezie? boh, vi terró aggiornate!

So here it is, my favourite room at all! The place I love most in our house... our red-ivory-sage green- black kitchen... and its little pretty accessories which I love! Here you can see the room seen from the garden door.

Yes, I know, the pot holders are always the same lovely ones that my friend marty gave me last year and the teatowels are always the sweet and colourful ones from All Tea Towels. I am working on making some new ones but I am still in the designing stage!

And, another project that I had in mind for a long time is to sort out the spices holder, because as it is know, I don't like it, it's too colour confused and not coordinated. I think I will buy some blank little jars which I then will decorate with personalised labels and maybe I'll paint the jar holders... we will see. I'll keep you posted!

Ma eccole, le signorine che volevo presentarvi: le vetrinette, che ho fortemente desiderato (non potendo avere mensole per questioni di spazio, sigh, doppio sigh) per poter avere qualcosa di carino in vista!

And here they are, the two protagonists of the post: the glass cabinets which I had strongly wanted to have (as I couldn't have any open shelves because there is not room enough....) in order to have a nice display of coloured and pretty things!

E finalmente son riuscita a sistemarle un pó. Alcune cose sono davvero utili e necessarie, altre magari solo decorative, ma bisogna sempre trovare il giusto compromesso quando si arreda una casa e la si vuole carina.

And finally I have been able to sort them our a little bit. Obviously some things are necessary while other are mainly decorative, when you decorate a house you always have to find the compromise if you want it to look nice.

Qui nella vetrinetta sinistra ci sono i contenitori della pasta corta, poi le varie scodelle/insalatiere in verde menta/salvia, e piú sopra contenitori vari e tazze di scorta. Tutto rigorosamente e, per quanto possibile, in tinta.

So here you, in the left cabinet, you'll find the jars with the "short" pasta, some bowls in sage green/mint green and then some other jars and spare mugs. Everything strictly colour matching.

E la mia vetrina preferita, quella di destra, con le tazze per la colazione a pois rossi e verdi, poi la zona caffe' con le tazzine adorabili che mi ha regalato l'altra mia cara amica Martina (quanto mi conosce sta donna!!!) e infine zona bicchieri per feste piú la caraffa.

And my favourite cabinet, the right one, with the breakfast mugs, the coffee area with the little espresso cups that my sweet friend Martina gave me as a gift (doesn't she know me perfectly???) and finally the party glasses and the jug.

Non mi resta molto da mostrarvi se non la disposizione attuale del carrellino (che é sempre in evoluzione) al momento con una bella gallinona di ceramica e le solite delizie rosse ;)

I don't have anything else left to show you, only the current display on the trolley (which is in continue evolution) that at the moment has the usual vase and jar plus a lovely ceramic big hen!

Null'altro da segnalare.. sperando di non avervi annoiato con le ennesime foto della cucina... sto lavorando alle altre stanze.. e so che alcune non ve le ho ancora mostrate. Ma il problema é che sono in una fase non molto creativa.. penso di essermi spremuta troppo con il matrimonoi :))) speriamo che l'ispirazione e la creativitá tornino al piú presto!

Nothing else to tell you.... I hope I am not boring with all these kitchen pictures... I am also working on the other rooms, I still have to show most of them.. but the problem is that I am not in a very creative phase...., I probably run out of energy after the wedding, so let's hope inspiration and creativity will be back soon!!!

British kitchen ... but Italian heart!

Come si dice qui in UK, in situazioni come la nostra il motto é "the best of both worlds" (il meglio di entrambi i mondi).. insomma sfruttare il bello e buono che c'é in UK pur prendendo e mantenendo (per quanto possibile) tutto ció che la nostra italianitá ci ha insegnato.

Per metterla proprio terra-terra, parlando di ambiente culinario, posso dire che la nostra cucina é sicuramente una piccola cucina british dal sapore country senza troppe pretese, e ne sono tanto felice, perché le scavolini o lube o compagnia bella iper moderne con piani di granito supercostoso e iper tecnologico che vanno tanto di moda in italia non mi attirano proprio per niente (e per fortuna mio "marito" ha i miei stessi gusti). Ma dell'italia e dall'italia ho mantenuto tutte le sane abitudini.. la vedete la decorazione che ho creato, stampato e incorniciato qui sotto? Vi puó far capire MOLTE cose su come funziona a casa nostra ;)

Warning to my foreign readers: VERY HIGH content of the famous and typical italians "food pickiness" in this post :)

As they say here in the UK, in our situation the motto is "the best of both worlds", meaning that we should take advantage of all the good and great things we got here in the UK, not forgetting and trying to maintain (when possible) our italian habits and way of doing things.

To keep this matter in a very practical way about food, I can say that we surely have a very british kitchen, which I love, because I am not into the italian fashionable designer ultra modern kitchens with ultra technologic and expensive granite worktops, at all. But, we kept our italian healthy food habits completely intact. So did you see the decoration down here that I designed, printed and framed? It can make you understand MANY things about how it works in our home ;)

La cucina potrá sembrare quella di una tipica casa inglese (stile che adoro!), ma dentro battono cuori italiani...... molto italiani! Se aprite i nostri sportelli e il nostro frigo troverete solo sughi barilla, schiacciatine e panificati vari, wafer loacker, caffe lavazza, biscotti e saccottini mulino bianco, ciobar (questa la portiamo anche ai nostri amici perché ha fatto strage di cuori), pan carre', farina di manitoba, pasta fresca maffei, sofficini (si pure quelli! non saranno salutari ma son tanto boooooni), stracchino, provolone, scamorze, radicchio di Treviso, cicoria, bieta... tutte cose che qui ci si puó sognare perché infatti, per farvela breve, ogni volta che scendiamo in aereo (mediamente ogni 3 mesi) portiamo valige vuote che riempiamo mediamente con 23kg+23kg di cibo italiano piú altri kg distribuiti assieme ai vestiti nei 4 bagagli a mano che BA consente. Stiamo parlando di piú di 50 kg di cibo italiano O_O!!! (se ci fermano alla dogana.....................)

The kitchen may seem the typical one you can find in a country style english home (the style that I love most of course!), but inside you will find two real italian hearts... very italian! If you open our cupboards and fridge, you will find plenty of italian food, actually, every time we fly back home, on average every three months, we come back with 23kg+23kg of italian food in the checked baggages plus some more kilos in the 4 cabin baggages that are allowed with BA. So a total of more than 50 kg of italian food every time O_O let's hope the custom at the airport never stops us :D

Io e Nicola siamo famosi (un pó come tutti gli italiani all'estero) tra i nostri amici per essere dei rompiscatole in tema di cucina e alimentazione. Perché non ci accontentiamo, perché non troviamo ormai piú niente che ci piaccia e perché dopo anni di vita all'estero siamo davvero sempre piú stufi di tutto...

Ma come si fa a non apprezzare la semplicitá di un piatto di pasta con sugo e zucchine con una spruzzata di parmigiano? Per chi, come noi italiani, é abituato alla semplicitá e alla salutarietá della nostra cucina, é difficile rinunciare a tutto ció!

Me and Nicola (together with almost all italian expats) are famous among all our friends because we are very picky about food and cooking matters. We can't get satisfied almost with anything, we can't find almost anything we like in the shops and in the restaurants, and after many years of living abroad we are officially fed up and tired with everything food related...

But, I mean, how can you not appreciate the simplicity of a pasta with tomato and courgettes and a sprinkle of parmesan? We are used to the italian food that is simple and healthy, so it's very difficult to give upt on that!

{n.b.: no non siamo cosí raffinati da volere SOLO l'acqua san pellegrino ^_^ é solo che questa settimana l'unica acqua frizzante (qui la gasata non va per niente, ma in compenso ci son corsie intere di acqua aromatizzata ai gusti piú disparati che si possono tranquillamente tenere, bleahhhhh) del supermercato era finita e cosí ci é toccato prendere questa che costa pure il doppio}

Per cui non ci resta che consolarci cucinando italiano a casa... e accontendandoci di quello che passa il convento quando usciamo (pizze assai discutibili, ristoranti italiani decenti locali che si contano nelle dita di UNA mano, e ogni tanto ristoranti etnici o pub in cui mangi bene ma ci metti 2 gg a digerire... si, siamo dei nonni lo so ^ _^!!!)... e per il resto, guardare incantata la mia cucina inglese country e coccola e cercare di non ascoltare lo stomaco che brontola e piange :)))

So we can only get comforted by cooking italian food at home ... and trying to get satisfied with the little we can find when we go out (very questionable pizzas, 2-3 decent local italian restaurants, and every now and again ethnic food or pub food that is actually good, but then we take usually 2 days to digest! yes, we are like grannies I know ^_^)... and for the rest of the time, I just look at our lovely country sweet english kitchen, I get enchanted and so I try not to listen to the stomach which grumbles and cries :)))

ps avete intravisto le vetrinette finalmente quasi complete? A prestissimo con qualche altra foticina della cucina...

The wedding day - love is sweet

Proprio mentre siamo completamente drogati e assorbiti dal photobooth, della serie che c'é quasi la fila per mettersi stupidaggini in testa e scrivere cavolate sulla lavagnetta, ecco che ci chiamano perché é arrivato il momento tanto atteso...

Immersa in un tavolo strapieno di mini e maxi delizie del buffet di torte preparate dal ristorante, c'era LEI, la protagonista indiscussa!

L'ho immaginata e pregustata tante volte... l'ho disegnata assieme ai bravissimi pasticceri di Dolci Passioni e ne ho creato i toppers ad uccellino (pattern: sempre il solito di Papershed, e non si vede in foto ma l'uccellina sposa ha una piccola rosellina in testa, proprio come me ^_^), ma vederla dal vivo non é la stessa cosa! ..e mangiarla poi :)))

Just when we are completely addicted and crazy about the photobooth (honestly, there was almost a queue to get the props and the blackboards) they are calling us for a very waited for moment......

Here IT is, it's the protagonist in a table full of many mini and maxi deliciousness from the "cakes buffet" that the restaurant prepared for us!

I imagined IT many times... I designed it together with the patisserie chef at Dolci Passioni, I created the birds cake topper (from the usual Paper Shed pattern, and you can't see in the picture, but the bride bird has a little flower on the head just like me ^_^) , but seeing IT for the first time it's just something else! and then eating it .....wow :)))

Penso che io e Nicola siamo rimasti seriamente a bocca aperta!

Bella, dolcissima e tutta a pois (poteva essere diversamente?!).. che peccato tagliarla!!!

Ma che bontá: pan di spagna immerso nella crema pasticcera e pezzetti di fragola.... impossibile spiegare a parole!!!

I think Nicola and me remained speechless for a while!

It was beautiful, so sweet and full of polka dots (could it be any other decoration?!)... what a shame to cut it!!! But it was so delicious, sponge soaked in "crema pasticcera" (italian custard) and pieces of fresh strawberries.... impossible to explain with words!

E come se non bastassero le delizie dei pasticcini e dolci e dolcetti vari del buffet e della torta nuziale, abbiamo pensato bene di usare i confetti avanzati dai sacchettini (che erano parecchi) per creare una mini confettata :)

Quando Giorgia (la nostra wp) ce l'aveva proposta, non eravamo convinti al 100%.... grande errore di valutazione il nostro, perché é stata invece un gran successo!!! Praticamente é stato difficile fotografarla perché, come vedete qui sotto, é stata letteralmente presa d'assalto prima ancora che l'allestimento fosse completo :)

And, as if the "cakes buffet" and the wedding cake were not enough, we also decided to use the "confetti" left from the favours (in Italy we give to our guests a proper favour, like a little or not so little gift, together with a little bag/box of sugared almonds, that we call "confetti") to create a mini "confettata" (it's a recent invention: a table full of "confetti" made in many different tastes, that you can eat/try during the party or take home in little bags/packets)

When Giorgia (our wp) proposed us to make a confettata we were not so sure.... but that was a huge misjudgement, because at the end, it was a big success!!!

Honestly, it was difficult to take a decent picture of it because, as you can see down here, it was "attacked" even before the set up was completed :)

Tra i motivi per cui ero titubante c'era anche il fatto che io non sono mai stata una fan dei confetti, ma grazie tante, io ero rimastaai "tempi antichi", con i confetti normali di mandorla o al massimo di cioccolato. Quelli che fanno al giorno d'oggi non si possono nemmeno chiamare confetti ma piccole meraviglie di pasticceria.. mamma mia che buoni!!!!!! ..e la mandorla (che NON amo particolarmente) non si sente nemmeno, immersa in quell'esplosione di dolcezza!

E cosí i miei compiti sono stati di scegliere i gusti assieme a Nicola (abbiamo scelto cappuccino, cocco, torta caprese, tiramisu' e cioccolato bianco e fondente), preparare i rispettivi cartellini, creare e stampare un piccolo riassunto di istruzioni da incorniciare (simile a quello del photobooth, magari un pó ovvio e scemo, ma che soddisfazione vedere che tutti lo leggevano con attenzione!), dipingere i cuori che vedete dentro le gabbiette qui sotto....

Among the reasons I was not so sure about it, there was the fact that I was still used to the old days, when the sugared almonds were just "basic" or only in the chocolate variation. But today (in Italy) the times have definitely changed! Now you can have them in many different tastes and they are sooooo good! nothing compared to classic ones (that I have never been a fan of)!

So my tasks were to chose the tastes with Nicola (we had cappuccino, coconut, tiramisu', caprese cake, white and dark chocolate), create and print the cardboard labels to attach to the bowls, create and print some kind of very basic (and maybe silly) instructions, paint the hearts you can see inside the birdcages......

... e preparare i sacchettini di carta, tagliando il bordo superiore con la forbice per fare le cappette e decorandoli con i timbrini che avevo intagliato a mano io, come esperimenti, molto tempo fa (uccellino, cuore e alberello, che vedete qui, e chi mai avrebbe pensato che li avrei poi usati per il mio matrimonio!!!) e lasciare poi tutto nelle mani esperte di Giorgia...

... and prepare the little paper bags, cutting the top edge with scalloped scissors, and decorating them with the little stamps, I hand carved as an experiment, long time ago (the bird, heart and tree you see here, and who would have thought, back then, that I would have used them for my own wedding!!!) and then leaving everything in the expert hands of Giorgia.....

Vi avevo promesso che vi avrei parlato di lei, ma il fatto é che a parole non si puó descrivere la nostra gratitudine per l'appoggio sia pratico che morale che ci ha dato in questi mesi!

Appena l'abbiamo incontrata, quando, piú di un anno fa, cercavamo una wedding planner locale nelle nostre zone natali (per OVVI motivi di impossibilitá organizzativa dall'estero), é scattato il cosiddetto colpo di fulmine. La sua semplicitá, il fatto che trasmette serenitá e che ti mette subito a tuo agio, il fatto che ci ha ascoltato e ha capito subito quello che desideravamo (che penso sia la qualitá piú importante per una wp) ossia un matrimonio semplice, intimo, coccolo ma condito da dettagli e particolari che raccontassero di noi, dei nostri gusti e del nostro stile, tutto questo ci ha fatto decidere istantaneamente che sarebbe stata la wp perfetta per noi. E cosí é stato.

Ci ha aiutato con tutti gli aspetti organizzativi, ci ha trovato fornitori eccezionali ed economici che noi non avremmo mai e poi mai saputo come trovare e ... a me ha sempre dato quel senso di serenitá, della serie "Tranquilla, é tutto sotto controllo"!

Penso che tra tutti i soldi che si BUTTANO letteralmente per un matrimonio, semplice o sfarzoso che sia, la spesa per una brava wp sia la scelta migliore che si possa fare (ed é verissimo quello che dicono in molti, ovvero che alla fine della fiera magari risparmi anche, perché ne sanno molto piú di noi comuni mortali).

Oltre agli aspetti organizzativi e ai tanti contatti, giorgia ha anche un buon gusto eccezionale! Ovviamente essendo io crafter, per quanto riguarda l'aspetto decorativo/creativo, ho voluto fare quasi tutto a mano da sola... ma guardate qui sotto le cose di cui abbiamo lasciato si occupasse lei.... come ad esempio il tavolo della confettata: penso si capisca di che pasta sia fatta questa donna, no?

I promised I would have talked about her: Giorgia, our wedding planner, but the truth is that is difficult to translate in words all the gratitude we have for her support during these months!

As soon as we met her, more than one year ago, when we were looking for a local wp in our italian native areas (given the situation it would have been quite difficult for us to organize from abroad), it was "love at first sight". Her lovely character, the fact that she immediately make you feel relaxed and at home, the fact that she carefully listened to us and immediately understood what kind of wedding we wanted (and I think this is the most important talent in a wp), so a very simple, intimate and sweet wedding, but full all little details that could tell about us, our style and what we love... all these things made us understand that she was the perfect wp for us.

She helped with all the organization and planning stuff, she found us professional and affordable suppliers that we could have never ever found on our own, and she always gave me that kind of "keep calm, everything is under control" feeling.

I honestly think that, among all the money that everybody throw literally away for a wedding, being it simple of majestic, the money for a good wp is the best spent one.

Apart from all the organizational skills and good contacts, giorgia also has an exceptional good taste! Obviously as I am a crafter, I wanted to make most of the things on my own,... but have a look down here to the things we let her set up, like for example the "confettata" table: I think you can guess what this lady is made of!

Le gabbiette, i contenitori di vetro, le alzatine: sono tutto materiale suo, che ci ha gentilmente prestato per l'occasione. La disposizione, l'aggiunta dei fiori e vasetti (riciclati dalla chiesa!!!) e delle candeline é tutto farina del suo sacco. Noi siamo arrivati li e siamo semplicemente rimasti ad occhi spalancati! Era ormai tardo pomeriggio e la luce della barchessa iniziava a farsi piú bassa, questo angolo con le candeline accese era semplicemente una delle cose piú belle e romantiche che abbia visto in vita mia...

The birdcage, the glass bowls and stands, it's all her material that she lent for the day. The layout, the addition of the flowers vases from the church and of the little tealights it's all her idea. We just got there and got our eyes wide shut in enchantment!

It was late afternoon already, so the light in the outer part of the barn was starting to get more soft and subtle, and the tealights were creating such a sweet atmosphere... one of the most romantic things I have ever seen...

I confetti sono ormai quasi un ricordo (andati letteralmente a ruba O_O), la luce sia fa sempre piú bassa, giusto il tempo di un dolcissimo ballo a due sotto le note di una delle canzoni piú belle che esistano, "What a Wonderful World", di Louis Armstrong, ed é giá il momento dei primi saluti...

Si corre avanti e indietro dal tavolo addobbato in maniera stupenda da Giorgia e dal fenomenale personale della Corte di Trambacche, per portare ai nostri cari i nostri piccoli doni ricordo di questa giornata speciale.

The confettis were already almost all gone, the sky was darkening more and more every minute, there is only time for a sweet romantic dance between me and my new husband, under the lovely notes of "What a wonderful world" by Louis Armostrong, and it's already time to say goodbye to the first guests that are going home...

So we just run around from the beautifully set up favors table (thanks to Giorgia, again, and to the Corte di Trambacche staff) to the guests, to give our dear ones a little gift as a memory of this special day.

Dei mini alberelli di ulivo, recuperati direttamente dalla Toscana dal papá di Nicola, che ci ha fatto questo enorme favore!

Agghindati alla perfezione in stile rustico come piace a noi da un fiorista locale (sotto le nostre istruzioni) e infine decorati con l'aggiunta personale.. con quel qualcosa di handmade che non potevo di certo rinunciare a fare.

E cosí ecco degli uccellini di lanetta (pattern dal libro di Tilda "Sew Pretty Christmas Homestyle" con aggiunta di ali disegnate da me) infilati in un bastoncino metallico da barbecue. Perfetti come decorazione per quella o altre piante. Semplici e dal colore neutro che penso ben si possa abbinare a qualsiasi casa, terrazzo o giardino. Un piccolo banner di cartoncino recita le nostre iniziali da una parte e la scritta "con amore" dall'altra.

The favors were some small olive trees, that Nicola's father was kind enough to buy and collect from as far as Tuscany for us!

They had been dressed up in a lovely rustic way (under our instructions) from a local flower shop and finally I decorated them with the personal touch that I couldn't avoid.

So I added a wool little bird (the pattern is from Tilda "Sew Pretty Christmas Homestyle" , to which I only added some simple wings) in which I inserted a barbecue steak so they can be used as a decoration for that tree or for other plants. They are very simple and with a neutral colour so hopefully they should match well in every house, balcony or garden. I also added a little flag banner that has our initials on one side and the words "con amore" (with love) on the other.

In abbinata alla piantina anche il classico sacchettino di confetti. Cinque confetti in ogni sacchetto di cui uno per gusto ovviamente :)

Ho creato un sacchettino di iuta con un semplice cuore dipinto con acrilico color panna, usando come stencil una formina per biscotti (bisogna pur ingegnarsi ^_^) e ho aggiunto un piccolo cartellino, come da tradzione, con i nostri nomi e la data del matrimonio.

Together with the little olive tree we also gave the traditional confetti bag. Five confettis in every bag, one for each taste of course ;)

I made a little burlap bag with a simple heart painted in ivory on the front. I used a cookie cutter as a stencil (you have to be ingenious sometimes!) and I added a little tag, as tradition, with our names and the date of the wedding.

E' giá finita la giornata??? eh si, le ultime chiacchere, gli ultimi saluti, il sole é sceso, ormai é buio e pian piano si torna a casa... pieni di ricordi, di emozioni, di amore, di affetto, di gioia, di entusiasmo.. per una giornata che é stata piú che speciale, piú che bellissima, piú che perfetta.

Sono felice di averla condivisa con voi e raccontata tramite il blog. Magari sono riuscita a darvi qualche idea e ispirazione! Penso che con il tempo mi fará piacere tornare qui e riviverla attraverso le foto e le parole.

E' dura tornare alla realtá.. un pó perché siamo ancora in quella specie di nuvoletta di quel giorno magico e un pó per la lontananza, ovvia, e usuale, dalle persone care, che peró questa volta, per vari motivi, pesa un pó di piú.

Ma pian piano ci si riabituerá a tutto!

Is the day already over??? apparently yes, there is just time for the last chats, the last goodbyes, the sun is already down, it's dark and it's time to slowly go home.... filled with memories, emotions, love, affection, happiness, enthusiasm.... for a day that was more than special, more than beautiful, more than perfect.

I am very happy to have been able to share it with you through the blog. Hopefully I gave you some ideas and inspirations! And I think that, some time from now, it will be nice for me to go back here, and live again everything through my words and through the pics.

It's been a bit hard to go back to reality... we were like a in a "wedding bubble" ... like up on a little cloud in the sky, and then obviously the usual problem of being far from our friends and dear ones, that this time, for many reasons, is a bit harder to deal with.

But we will quickly get used again to our life here, I am sure!

In the meantime thanks everyone for the lovely comments, for the wishes, the compliments, the congratulations and the love you gave me during this period!!! You are the best reader in all the blog world!!!!

Eccolo qui.. il momento piú atteso (e di cui avevamo molti dubbi sulla riuscita .... dubbi poi svaniti in un lampo) il mitico e ormai sempre piú in voga "photobooth"!!!

Per quelle di voi (e per quasi tutti i nostri invitati) che non seguono i blog americani di weddings and events forse suonerá come arabo, ma a dire la veritá trovo che sia una cosa davvero carina e una di quelle "invenzioni" che é proprio un bene scopiazzare dall'estero per svecchiare un pó il modo a volte un pó troppo classico e serioso (opinione mia ovviamente) di fare i matrimoni in Italia!

Per cui care mie, non vi resta che leggere le istruzioni che ho preparato per l'occasione....

Here it is, the most waited for moment (and a moment that we had serious doubts it could be successful ... but the doubts disappeared straight away!): the funny and more and more in vogue "photobooth"!!!

For some of you not used to the american weddings and events blogs (and for basically all my guests) maybe this could sound like a mistery, but honestly it's a funny and lovely way to enjoy some time during some weddings, that, especially in Italy, can sometimes be a bit too traditional and boring! So, my dear readers, you have nothing left to do than reading the instruction I carefully prepared for the occasion....

{translation of the instrucations: Souvenir picture - leave us a picture of you as a memory for us of this special day! - instructions - write a message on the blackboards available. Use as many props as you like and then click, click, click!!! but, most of all, have a lot of fun!}

E divertirvi!!!

Garantito che si torna bambini in un solo istante! Gli sguardi dubbiosi iniziali e le persone che si nascondevano dietro la colonna sono durati pochissimo... tempo due minuti e l'atmosfera si é scaldata... si sono quasi tutti lanciati nella mischia, abbiamo trascinato persino qualche parente! E' stato un vero divertimento... una lotta all'ultimo occhiale da "nerd" (secchione), a chi agguantava per primo la parrucca afro e c'era persino chi non se ne voleva piú separare!

And simply have fun!

Guaranteed you go back to feeling like a child straight away! The initial "frowns" and "hiding behind something not to get involved" lasted just a couple of minutes.... the atmosphere immediately warmed up... almost everybody got involved and we also got some of the relatives to partecipate and have fun!

It was really nice.... between a fight for the last nerd specs and a fight to get the best afro wig, there was also someone that didn't want to separate from the wig anymore!

Ho scelto, tra le tantissime, solo alcune delle mie foto preferite e le ho raccolte qui sotto! Mi avvalgo della facoltá di non richiedere il consenso per la privacy a tutti i nostri amici, perché tanto sono praticamente tutti irriconoscibili :)))

Che dite: ci siamo divertiti???? Io ve lo straconsiglio! E peccato essermi trovata all'ultimo... avrei potuto comprare/fare molti piú accessori e organizzare un vero e proprio set con sfondo carino.. ma avevo troppe altre cose a cui pensare! Insomma anche se era un photobooth un pochino "denoantri" é stato cmq un gran successo e un gran divertimento!!!

What do you say: didn't we have fun?! I really can say good things about this funny invention! It's just a shame that I didn't have time, nor energy to prepare everything in a better way... I could have bought/made much many props and I could have work out a way to create a nice background for the pics .. but I had too many things to think about and anyway, even if a bit "handmade" and basic, I think this was a big success and a lovely moment of laughters!!!

The wedding day - let's party!

Tra strombazzamenti e bellissimi panorami, in mezzo a paesetti e campagne che amo, siamo finalmente arrivati alla location! Un pó di invitati sono giá li, altri ci hanno seguito in macchina strombazzando con noi! E' il momento di scendere, un brindisi di benvenuto con l'adorata L.O.V.E. di Nat King Cole di sottofondo e viaaaaaaaa verso il buffet, le chiacchere e gli amici!!!

Honking around in the middle of the countryside, among little villages and beautiful landscapes we have finally arrived to the location! Some guests are already here, others followed us honking with us! It's time to get off the car, and to reach our guests with a welcoming toast drinking a yummy sweet sparkling wine and with the lovely L.O.V.E. (by Nat King Cole) as background music. So now let's go! The starters buffet and the chats with friends are waiting for us!

Mille cosine deliziose tra cui scegliere, ma si sa che gli sposi il giorno del matrimonio non mangiano molto (infatti io ho assaggiato solo la tortina vegetariana in basso a sinistra sigh.. ma che bontá!!!) perché sono troppo intenti a chiaccherare con tutti e a respirare quell'aria magica!

Thousands of delicious things are on the buffet table, but it's well known that the bride and groom on the wedding day don't eat that much (I only ate the super lovely vegetarian pastry at the bottom left...) because they are too busy chatting and enjoying that magical atmosphere!

...tranne nicola forse, che come vedete sta facendo incetta di cibo italiano (offerto gentilmente da uno dei suoi testimoni che ha rubato il posto ai camerieri!) da conservare nel cuore e nello stomaco per i tempi duri che ci aspettano ora di nuovo in UK :(

... well maybe not nicola, who, as you can see is buying up italian food (courtesy of one of his witnesses who stole the place of the waiters!) to store in his heart and stomach for the hard days coming up in the UK (from the food point of view) :(

La location che abbiamo scelto, con l'aiuto della nostra wedding planner Giorgia, é (permettetemi un pó di presunzione ma ne sono letteralmente innamorata) bella, rustica, chic, unica e originale... si chiama "La corte di Trambacche", un rustico, immerso nella campagna padovana, dal sapore provenzale, con pareti color crema e finestre azzurre! Quelle finestre azzurre che da anni mi facevano innamorare (é lungo una stradina che per vari motivi ho fatto spesso) e che mai avrei pensato sarebbe diventato un luogo che ora ci rimarrá per sempre nel cuore!

Qui sotto vedete la barchessa con la zona relax subito a lato del buffet. Tra chiacchere, degustazione di bontá e risate, abbiamo passato molto tempo sotto questi archi...

The location, that we found also with the help of our wedding planner Giorgia, is (forgive me the presumption, but I love it so so so much) beautiful, rustic, chic, unique and original.... it's called "La corte di Trambacche" and is a country farmhouse in the middle of the Padua countryside. It has a unique provencal feel, given by the cream painted walls and light blue windows! Those light blue windows that made me fall in love with that place long time ago, everytime I used to drive past it, but I never imagined it would have been our location and a place which we will now, never forget.

Down here you can see the outside barn, with the relax area next to the buffet tables. We spent much time chatting and laughing under those arches....

Dopo aver fatto il pieno (tutti tranne me) di delizie al buffet, é il momento di sedersi nella sala interna, adiacente alla barchessa. Il tableau é in posizione e penso sia il lavoro di cui sono piú orgogliosa tra tutte le creazioni matrimoniali!

After everyone (apart from me) filled up with the yummynesses from the buffet, it's now time to seat in the adjacent indoor dining hall. The tableau (tables map) is ready and in position and is probably the creation, among the ones I made for the wedding, I am more proud of!

Misura 50x70 ed é stato un lavoraccio cucire quell'albero di stoffa sul fondo di iuta, viste le dimensioni! Una cornice bianca ikea lo abbellisce e tante foglie di feltro rosa e beige lo decorano. I nostri nomi incollati usando delle lettere di cartoncino spesso che avevo da molti anni (vale sempre la regola, comprare comprare comprare che prima o poi.............) dipinte di bianco panna da me.

Infine 8 bottoni rosa e beige per appendere 8 cartellini con i numeri e la disposizione dei tavoli dei nostri invitati.

It's a 50x70cm size and so it was quite a job to sew the fabric tree in place on the burlap background! An Ikea white frame is surrounding it and some lovely light pink and tan leaves are decorating it. There are our names at the bottom, which I glued on using some very very old chipboards letters (it's always the same rule: buy, buy, buy that sooner or later you will use it) which I painted in ivory.

Finally there are 8 light pink and tan buttons used to hang 8 cards with the numbers of the tables and the names of the guests.

Ed ecco qualche piccolo scorcio della sala interna. I colori pastello dei fiori sui tavoli si uniformavano in maniera divina alla parete color crema. Non avrei potuto chiedere di meglio. Un ambiente molto caldo, coccolo e un pó fiabesco!

Aurora (la nostra fiorista) ha dato anche qui il meglio di se'. Avevamo deciso per uno stile rustico chic e un pó vintage. Tante bottigliette, barattoli e piccoli contenitori su una base di legno grezzo (suggerita da lei e che adoro!!!). Decorazioni di iuta e nastri di cotone per aggiungere quel tocco in piú...

Ma mai ci saremmo aspettati tanta bellezza e buon gusto! Dove mai avrá recuperato tutte quelle bottigliette e quei vasetti io nn lo so (alcuni di yogurth, altri di cynar, altri di succo di frutta, altri della marmellata, altri piú elaborati... incredibile!!!) ma stavano d'incanto tutti assieme!

And here you can see some sneak peeks of the indoor hall. The pastel colours of the flowers seem to blend perfectly with the cream background. I couldn't ask for a better effect. The atmosphere, was, in my opinion, very warm, sweet and fairytale-like!

Aurora (the flower lady) really gave the best also here. We decided together for a rustic chic and a little bit vintage style. So: many little bottles, vases, jars on a rustic wood base (that she suggested and I totally loved). Plus some decoration made from jute and cotton to add some cuteness...

Honestly though, we would have never expected such a beautiful display! Where did she find all those pretty little jars and vases I have no idea (some of yogurth, some of jam, some of juice, some more complex, some less... amazing!) but they looked stunning mixed all together!

Tovaglie (e tovaglioli) di linone grezzo, coperte da semplici tovaglie bianche... un connubio perfetto per lo stile che amo!

E le mie cornici per segnare i numeri dei tavoli, che penso si sposino perfettamente al resto.

Le ho create usando delle cornicette Ikea con una base di iuta e un numero di cartoncino (comprato per l'occasione e dipinto di bianco panna). Le trovo semplicissime ma d'effetto.

The tablecloth were two: a rustic linen underneath and a simple white on the top, together with rustic linen napkins. Everything just perfect for my style!

And then the tables numbers which I think blend perfectly with the rest.

I made them using some Ikea frames with a burlap background and some chipboard numbers I bought appositely and I painted in ivory. Very simple but lovely I think.

Ed é il momento di sedersi! Tutti giá ci aspettano dentro e con "That's amore" di sottofondo entriamo finalmente anche a noi!!! Difficile non individuare subito il nostro tavolo ;) due (immancabili) uccellini sposi (inutile dirlo, creati da me) su cornici ikea ci indicano subito la nostra postazione! Un tavolino rettangolare al centro della saletta, come un re e una regina... mille vasetti e barattolini di fiori anche per noi e il mio bouquet finalmente si puó riposare tra loro... ok, ora si mangia e si beve!!!

Ok, it's really time to sit! Everybody is already inside and with "That's amore" as music background we finally enter the little dining hall!!! It's difficult not to notice where our table is ;) two birds dressed as bride and groom on two Ikea frames (obviously made by me) are immediately telling us where to sit! It's a rectangular table in the middle of the room, like real king and queen... among many lovely little jars and bottles filled with beautiful flowers, and finally my bouquet can rest among them, and for us is time to eat and drink!!!

Eh si, si beve soprattutto.. e per due pseudo astemi (non per scelta ma perché in genere non ci piace l'alcool, preferiamo la coca cola e la fanta aahahah) come noi anche lo spumante e un pó di vino bianco possono contribuire ad aumentare l'allegria generale :)

Ok, tra una buonissima portata e l'altra (mi sogno ancora di notte i bigoli con sugo agli ortaggi e gli gnocchi soffiati con finferli e patate... cosa darei ora, che sono di nuovo in uk, per mangiarne una porzione intera e non solo due morsi al volo) é arrivato il momento di festeggiare tra brindisi, baci, qualche scherzo organizzato dai testimoni e soprattutto il momento clou del pomeriggio, che vi racconteró nella prossima (e penultima) puntata!

Yes....also drink and since usually we are teetotal (not for choice but because we don't like alchool, we prefer soft drinks like coke or fanta), even just a bit of white wine can help to warm up the atmosphere even more :)

Ok, among all the super tasty dishes (we are still dreaming at night the lovely italian food we had which we can only dream about now that we are back to the UK) it's time to party, to toast, to celebrate, to enjoy some jokes organized by the witnesses and to get ready for the best moment of the afternoon, which I will shortly tell you about in the next episode!

The wedding day - yes we do

Venti minuti in macchina nei meravigliosi colli euganei, uno dei luoghi che piú amo su questa terra e dove un giorno sogno, sogniamo di poter vivere... il sole che pian piano spuntava in un cielo che si faceva, per fortuna, sempre piú azzurro. Ed eccola spuntare, li' in alto, la piccola chiesetta di Luvigliano, che abbiamo scelto per questo nostro giorno speciale... tutta bianca ed immersa nel silenzio dei colli, tra ulivi, viti e casette di pietra. Mi sa che é proprio arrivato il momento di scendere!!!

A twenty minutes drive among the Euganean Hills, one of my favourite places in the whole world, where we dream, one day, to live... the sun that luckily was started to shine in the middle of a blue sky. And finally here it was, the little shcurch of Luvigliano, which we chose for this special day. . all white and surrounded by the silence of the hills, and by vineyards, olive trees and old stone houses. I think it's really time to get out of the car!!!

La cerimonia é stata intima ed emozionante. Ne conservo ricordi a tratti lucidi a tratti sbiaditi (per via dell'emozione) ma vorrei rimanesse un momento tra me, Nicola e i nostri cari.. per cui vi lascio con questa foto che rappresenta uno dei momenti piu belli di questa giornata... I nostri sorrisi dicono tutto penso :)

Eccoli qua... i neosposini!!! Giá immaginerete cosa succederá a breve no? I cestoni (non sono carinissimi?) riempiti con i rimanenti coni di riso preparati con pazienza e amore da mia suocera fanno presagire qualcosa.....

The service was very intimate and moving. I have some vivid memories mixed with some confused ones (because of the emotions) .. but I would like to keep that moment between me, Nicola and the our dear ones. So I leave you a picture of one of the best moments of the day.. you can see how happy we were from the smiles in our faces :)

Here they are, the newlyweds!!! You can guess what will happen in a short time right? The big baskets (aren't they super cute?) full with the remaining rice packets (carefully and patiently created by my mother in law) can make you figure what will happen now...

Three, two, one...... the rice bombing has started!!! And that was only the beginning O_O

Ma dico, oltre ai cestini avete visti quei due alberelli decorati a fianco della porta? avete visto il vaso avvolto nel cotone grezzo? la coroncina che pende? i nastri di cotone? i cuori di legno?

Tutta opera della nostra FANTASTICA fiorista, Aurora (trovata grazie alla nostra bravissima wp Giorgia), che ci ha stupito, a tratti sconvolto, per la sua bravura e per il suo buon gusto! Vi dico solo che moltissimi invitati pensavano che gli addobbi floreali fossero opera mia (magari ne fossi capace O_O!!!) tanto lo stile e il gusto di Aurora hanno impersonificato a pieno il mio stile e il mio gusto.

Una sbirciatina dentro la chiesa, dove lungo i banchi Aurora aveva posizionato questi stupendi semplici vasettini di latta con fiori delicatissimi nelle tonalitá pastello e autunnali che avevamo scelto assieme.

But, apart from the lovely baskets, did you notice the two decorated trees on the sides of the church hatch? did you notice the vase wrapped in a rustic ivory fabric? the little hanging wreath? the cotton ribbons? the wooden hearts?

Eeverything has been put in place by our FANTASTIC flower lady, Aurora (found thanks to our wp Giorgia), that really surprised us and delighted us with her professionality and good taste! I can tell you that many guests thought the flower decorations were made by me (as if I was good enough!!! no way) because the style and taste of Aurora, was exactely identical to mine.

A little sneak peek inside the church, were you can see some lovely simple little tin vases with pretty pastel coloured flowers inside.

Sull'altare faceva capolino questa stupenda composizione... Che meraviglia le rose color pesca e le ortensie verdi.... Per non parlare della latta unita al cordone di iuta e al cotone grezzo... Sono rimasta incantata!

On the altar this stunning composition was the main protagonist... how beautiful it was, especially the peach coloured roses and the light green hydrangeas.... and what about the burlap string together with the cotton ribbon... I was enchanted!

Sull'altare maggiore invece ancora composizioni e questo stupendo e dolcissimo bosso. Adoro quel cuore che pende!!!

Penso che anche il parroco della chiesetta sia stato contento. Aveva la cresima il giorno dopo e quindi penso che molte persone avranno goduto di questa atmosfera semplice, bella e romantica!

On the back altar there were other simple decorations and this super sweet box tree. I totally love that hangin heart!!!

I think also the church priest was happy, because he had a holy confirmation the day after our wedding and so hopefully, a lot of people will have enjoyed this lovely, simple, romantic atmosphere!

Ecco anche il nostro libretto. Frutto di lunghi w.e. al computer, correzioni su correzioni, scelte, pensieri, emozioni. La copertina semplice e delicata, riprende lo stesso stile delle partecipazioni.

Here is our service order booklet. It was a hard work to create on the pc, with hours spent between corrections, thoughts and emotions. The very simple cover is in the same style of the invitations.

E la mitica mappa, che mi ha fatto stare un paio di sere/notti al pc! pazzie (completamente inutili, lo ammetto!!!) che si fanno una volta nella vita ;)

D'altronde che ci devo fare se sono pignola e non mi piacciono le cartine di google maps o simili??? Volevo una cosa personalizzata, chiara (sono pignola anche nelle indicazioni stradali) e in linea con il resto dello stile della giornata. E cosí via di Inkscape (che sto imparando a usare, come sempre da autodidatta, per cui ci son volute ore) e di Photoshop... Ma vi diró, che ne sono tanto orgogliosa :)))

And then the map! This was a crazy thing I did, spending a couple of evenings/nights on the pc (well, once in a lifetime you are allowed to do crazy things aren't you?)

What can I do if I am not happy with the standard google maps or similar you can find online? I wanted the map to be customized, very understandable (I am picky also in car directions!!!) and in the style of the wedding. So I spent some hours with Inkscape (which I am starting to learn, ina self taught way, as usual) and Photoshop.... but I have to tell you that I am really proud of it :)))

Ok, il riso é lanciato, gli auguri e i baci sono stati ritirati, le chiacchere nella piazzetta baciata dal sole sono fatte, due tre foto al volo in questo contesto stupendo ed é ora di partire.... Palloncini in macchina, lattine attaccate dietro per farci sentire letteralmente in tutti i colli (troppo divertente peró!!!), clacson a tutto spiano e si parte per la festa!

Ok then. The rice has been thrown at us, the congraturations and kisses have been received, the chitty chats in the little sunny piazza have been done, some quick pics in that lovely place have been taken...... the balloons are in the car, the tins and cans are attached behind in order for us to be heard by all the people in the whole hills (but that was so funny!!!)... it's time to go to the party, honking with the car and laughing all the way!

The wedding day - getting ready

La mattina del matrimonio é stato un momento magico. Una stanza tutta di legno in un luogo da fiaba dove abbiamo avuto la fortuna di soggiornare per qualche giorno... Tutte le cosine pronte al loro posto, elenchi infiniti di cose da fare e da consegnare, da ticcare man mano, e tanta ansia mista ad emozione. La mattina é iniziata presto e in un silenzio surreale di quel luogo magico. Norah Jones di sottofondo e qualche chiacchera tra me e la Daniela (la mia trucco-parrucchiera)..

The wedding morning was a magical moment. A wooden room in a fairy tale location in which we were lucky enough to be able to stay for a some days... All the things ready in their place, neverending lists of things to do and to consign, to tick off, and a lot of anxiety mixed with emotion. The morning has started very early in the surreal silence of that magical place. Norah Jones in the air and a bit of chatting between me and Daniela (my make up artist/hairdresser)..

Si é poi caricata sempre piú di voci ed emozioni man mano che arrivavano la fotografa, la fiorista a portarmi il bouquet, la Giorgia (la nostra wp, di cui poi vi parleró) e soprattutto le mie AMICHE Fiore e Marty, le testimoni migliori del mondo che non potró mai e poi mai ringraziare abbastanza per il sostegno, l'aiuto, le risate e l'amicizia!

Nonostante mi avessero giá fatto il loro regalone (che vi mostreró pian piano) mi hanno portato altre cosine da scartare... mi sembrava Natale :)

Tra i vari adorabili regalini, questo qui sotto mi ha emozionato particolarmente, e ve lo vorrei mostrare... solo delle persone cosí speciali potevano pensare ad un regalo cosí speciale!!!

The morning then started to get more noisy... a lot of people filled the room with chatting and excitement. The photographer came first, then the flower lady which brought me the bouquet, then Giorgia (our wp which I will talk about later) and most of all my dear FRIENDS Fiore and Marty that were the best witnesses/bridesmaids anyone could ask for. I will never be able to thank them enough for the support, help, laughters and friendship!

Even if they already gave me a beautiful gift (which I will show you soon) they still had a lot of surprises/gifts for me... among all, this was the one that really made me almost cry... I would like to show it to you. Only special people like them could think of a special gift like this!!!

La mattinata si é fatta sempre piú frenetica, sposta di qua, metti di la, consegna questo, paga quello, ricorda quest'altro, fotografa qui, fotografa li, metti il vestito, metti le scarpe ... aiuto é arrivata giá la macchina!!!! ... e io nel casino dei giorni precedenti avevo rinunciato a creare delle decorazioni per abbellirla un pó (anche se é giá cosí bella di suo!) perché non avevo piú tempo ne' energie....

Ma quando si hanno delle amiche-testimoni-damigelle tuttofare come solo io ho la fortuna di avere, beh, che problema c'é??? In quattro e quattr'otto, mentre io sulla sedia da trucco guardavo "in su", poi "in giú", poi "di lato", loro si sono armate di forbici e con la carta velina che avevo comprato appositamente, mi hanno creato i pom pom piú belli della storia dei pom pom??? O NO???!!!!

Ragazze non so come ringraziarvi!!!!

The morning started to get more and more hectic: move this, move that, consign this, pay for that, remember this, photograph this, photograph that, put the dress on, put the shoes on... oooooooohhhh the car is already here!!! ... and in the mess of the previous days I hadn't found the time to prepare some decorations for it, so I had sadly given up :(

But you know what? When you have some bridesmaids like I had, the problem was easily solved! While I was in the makeup chair moving the eyes up, then down, then on the side, etc, they quickly started to make the pom poms for the car... and they ended up to be the more beautiful pom poms I have ever seen in my life!

Thank you so so so much girls!

Ed eccoli qui, colorati di beige, bianco e rosa tenue.... un perfetto connubio con l'atmosfera del matrimonio, sembrano nati per essere messi nel bellissimo maggiolone color panna che ho avuto la fortuna di poter usare quel giorno!

Ok é tutto pronto... la borsa sposa é fatta e consegnata alla fiore, le scarpe sono infilate ... é il momento di scendere! Mi mancava solo il quadernone del matrimonio, (con tutti gli appunti e le cosine dentro) volevo ripassare in macchina la messa, quando devo dare la mano destra, a chi devo dare il segno della pace prima... rimembranze di scuola, quando ripassavo la mattina in corriera ^_^, ma la marty me lo ha vietato categoricamente :)))

And here they are! In beige, white and pale pink... perfectly matching the wedding atmosphere... they seemed to be born to be attached on the back of that beautiful ivory beetle that I was so lucky to be able to use for that day!

Ok, everything is ready... the bag is done and consigned to fiore, the shoes are on... it's time to go! I only needed to grab my wedding notebook (the notebook in which I wrote all my notes, and lists and stuff about the wedding) and read it once again in the car whilst going to the church, in order to review the wedding mass and when to give the right hand etc.etc. (like when I was a student and I used to study in the morning in the bus!) but marty strictly forbade it :)))

... manca qualcosa direte voi... eh si... la sposa! .... eccola qui! C'é anche lei!!!

Una sbirciatina al vestito di cui sono stata tanto contenta! Un abito disegnato da me e da Kate, la sarta inglese che me lo ha confezionato (cioé, io ho disegnato come lo volevo, e lei ha creato il pattern e me lo ha cucito). E' piu corto della norma per dargli uno stile un pó vintage... e coccolo e semplice e tanto tanto "me". Il bolerino per la messa (e per la frescura della mattina un pó grigia che poi si é rischiarata in una splendida giornata di sole caldo e cielo azzurro!) nasconde la schiena di pizzo che é la parte di cui la mia sarta Kate era piú orgogliosa!

Come accessori solo tre semplici e meravigliose perle regalate dai miei suoceri. Una al collo e due come orecchini... le adoro!

E per finire in testa la rosa identica a quella del vestito, creata sempre da Kate e la veletta che ho cucito la sera prima a mezzanotte (non mi smentisco mai! sempre all'ultimo minuto... )

Something is missing, you will say... oh yes.... the bride! Here she is!

A sneak peek to my dress, which I really loved! It was designed by me and my english seamstress Kate, well I made the sketch and she designed the pattern and made the dress of course! It's shorter than usual, to give it a bit of a vintage taste, and sweet and simple, and very very me. The little shrug for the church was covering the part that kate, the seamstress, was mostly proud of, the lace back!

As accessories just three simple and lovely pearls given as a gift by my inlaws. One as a necklace and two as earrings. I love them!

And finally on the head, I wore a fabric rose identical to the one on the dress, and a birdcage veil that I had sewn just the night before at midnight (as usual, at the last minute!)

Just happiness!

Non posso nemmeno esprimere quanto felici siamo!!! Una cosa che con le parole é difficile da spiegare... perché oltre al fatto che é stato un giorno stupendo, bello come lo desideravamo, anzi, molto di piú, é stato anche un momento in cui tutte le ansie, le paure, le stupidissime o meno preoccupazioni dei giorni (e settimane, e mesi) precedenti sono svanite come per incanto... nel momento in cui sono entrata in chiesa e ho visto tutte le persone a noi care li a sorridere per me, per noi, e nicola li in fondo ad aspettarmi. Mi viene la pelle d'oca anche solo a ripensarci!!!

Vi racconteró tutto-tutto-tutto con calma, vi mostreró tutte le mie creazioni e vi parleró delle persone fantastiche che ci hanno aiutato a rendere questo giorno cosí meraviglioso. Purtroppo al momento non ho nessuna foto mia (ovviamente, facevo altro ieri!!!) e devo aspettare che i miei amici me le passino.. dato che quelle ufficiali arriveranno tra un pó, cosí, nel frattempo vi lascio con questa immagine qui sotto che penso rappresenti bene la nostra felicitá e l'atmosfera del matrimonio. Solo per salutarvi, ringraziarvi dell'IMMENSO calore e affetto e amore che mi avete lasciato tramite mails, commenti, messaggini, regalini e altro! Oggi son di corsissima ma appena rientro in postazione, nei prossimi giorni, vi ringrazieró con calma!!!

I can't even explain how happy we are!!! It's a thing that is really difficult to translate in words... because, not only it was a beautiful day, much more beautiful that I could ever expect, but it was also a day in which, suddenly, all the fears, anxieties and bigger and smaller worries disappeared, in the exact moment I entered the church and I saw all my dears smiling at me, at us, and nicola waiting at the end of the aisle. I get goose bumps just thinking about it!!!

I will tell you everything in the little details with time, I will show you all my creations and I will tell you about all the amazing people that helped us making this day so lovely. Unfortunately I don't have any pics (obviously I was busy being the bride!) now and I have to wait for my friends to give some pics to me, as the official ones will come in a longer time so in the meantime I just want to leave you with these pics down here that I think represent our happiness and the wedding atmosphere. Just to say hello to you and to thank you for the overwhelming love and affection you gave me in this period through mails, messages, comments and little gifts! Today I am really in a hurry, but as soon as I will be back home, in the next days, I will thank you properly!
